Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells Slot Review
We mentioned Wazdan in one of our latest casino reviews, touching upon a spat they had with a crypto gaming operator this past year. That reminded us to check and see if we had ever reviewed any of this developer’s games because, going off the top of our heads, we could not remember any. It turns out we did, back in February 2021, Choco Reels. Well, in truth, this company deserves more attention. It has been around since 2010, winning the Online Casino Innovator award at the Central and Eastern Europe Gaming Conference in 2018 and the Slot of the Year in 2019 at the Malta Gaming Awards for Larry the Leprechaun game. Wazdan is a Malta-based brand with over one hundred and fifty titles in its portfolio. The Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells slot is one of the newest spinners that, at the time of writing, is still in its narrow distribution stage, only found on exclusive platforms. It will receive a wide release on March 30th, 2023. That said, despite its limited distribution, this game is posting respectable numbers in Australia and Netherlands, and we are looking at it below.
Theme & Design
What is the theme of Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells? Visually, it seems to be the Middle Ages. Historically defined, that is the period between the fall of Rome and the start of the Renaissance. So, from 476 CE to around the beginning of the 14th century. In slot terms, Medieval is any period featuring castles. Right? Going by our count, around three hundred and fifty such spinners exist. The most famous ones currently are Play’n GO’s the Sword and the Grail, Print Studio’s Royal Potato, and Pragmatic Play’s Fire Archer. Naturally, not counting this one.
The setting of Mystery Kingdom is a spooky forest at night, with a Dracula-like castle in the background and a sword reminiscent of Excalibur in the foreground. Everything behind the golden-infused grid has a blue tint, adding that gloomy night feel. The shadows and cobwebs around the scene also help with this. In our opinion, the real star of the presentation of Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells is the soundtrack playing in the background. We even left the game idle to take it in for a minute or two. We really did. It is of movie soundtrack quality, and we hated that the coin machine effects took away from it once you get spinning.
Wazdan’s button panel is akin to Play’n GO’s one. You find it at the bottom of the reel grid, and it has the bet-adjuster functions in the middle, the settings on the left, and the spin options on the right. On top of the 4×3 layout lay the jackpot rewards this game offers, plus its logo.
Specs & Gameplay
The Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells slot has an adjustable variance setting, an RTP of 96.15%, a betting range moving from $0.1 to $1,000, and only one payline. That is correct. You read that right. The max exposure of this game is x750, and that is the prize attainable through what this slot calls – the Grand Jackpot. Its other three jackpot rewards are Major, Minor, and Mini, supplying wins of x50, x20, and x10, respectively.
Since this is a one-payline slot, you must hit matching symbols on its middle row to win a prize. The game also features blank bat positions. These also land on every spin. Essentially the goal in the Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells is to enter its Jackpot Bonus round, as this product has no regular pay symbols.
Bonus Features
When you land four game tokens, regardless of their type, on this slot’s middle row, you trigger its Jackpot Bonus mode. Cash Infinity symbols are coins with the phrase Cash Infinity on them. Plus, multiplier values of x5 to x10, with these images randomly showing in the base game, stick onto the 4×3 grid until you land the other symbols necessary to activate the Jackpot Bonus game. That means these lock in place, with the unoccupied positions displaying new symbols.
When the bonus mode does activate, the empty reels get packed with bells, and it is your job to pick one, uncovering a Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand jackpot. Drawing the latter concludes this feature, and you get paid its x750 max prize. Selecting the three other symbols means they become sticky for the duration of the round at random spots. The mode consists of three re-spins, where all the landed symbols stick until it ends, and when you hit a new bonus token, the respin counter rests back to three. Once you run out of reel rotations or fill the grid with locked symbols, you exit this mini-game, getting paid the total of all the on-screen values. Note that you also have a collector token that accumulates Cash and Cash Infinity symbol values, multiplying them at random with up to x20 multipliers. And this spinner also has Mystery and Jackpot Mystery tokens that can transform into other symbols. The Jackpot Mystery ones can only morph into Mini, Minor, and Major jackpots, while the regular Mystery symbolс can also produce cash and collector tokens.
GOSU Verdict
Different is good. We like different. And Mystery Kingdom: Mystery Bells from Wazdan is the type of game we do not see frequently. It has a pick’em bonus game that implements a hold-and-spin mechanic, with morphing symbols and a collector feature. We give praise where praise is due. We salute Wazdan for daring to create something that is not standard, and we are sure many will love this game. It is not one that shall entice everyone to spin its reels. But we are sure it shall have its fans and a healthy lifespan.
