Money Train Slot Review
In early 2019, perhaps more players associated Relax Gaming with its few, yet amazing RNG table games, than with slots. That all changed with the release of Temple Tumble Megaways. Six months after it hit the interwebz, the Malta-based company gained even more momentum with slot aficionados when they unleashed Money Train, a western romp, with characters reminiscent of 1980s cartoons. You join a gang of four outlaws on a train heist that could earn you a fortune worth x20,000 your bet.
Theme & Design
It seems like, while movies have neglected the western genre, slot developers have discovered that online casino players are still fond of old west tales. Thus, titles such as Tombstone, Dead or Alive 2, and The One-Armed Bandit dominate the current iGaming landscape. You can now add Money Train to this mix, a slot powered by the Silver Bullet platform, which features painterly graphics and machine gun-toting animations.
The reels here spin from inside a freight train cart, as a dusty and desolate western town acts as a backdrop. It’s a very cliché setting, complete with the classic windmill, whose blades slowly turn as dust rises from the earth. You’ve seen this visual in about every wild west film. The main characters here are equally formulaic, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it adds a sense of fun. They are a mean gunslinger, a Native outlaw, a Mexican outlaw, and a female one.
You can find all your required buttons at the bottom of the screen, and you can find the Buy Feature lever on your left.
Specs & Gameplay
Money Train is a high variance game with a hit frequency of 18.73. Its return-to-player stands at 96.2%, which is around the industry average, and it accepts bet sizes up to $50. However, note that when you enter the bonus round, the RTP rises to 98%. The game plays out on a five-reel, four-row grid, which has 40 active paylines. You should be able to land wins up to x2,000 your bet in the base game.
Wood-carved card suits are the low-paying symbols, awarding x3 to x5 your bet for five of a kind. The four gang members are the high-paying symbols and can award wins from x8 to x20 your wager. They can all appear super-stacked and can lead to payouts ranging from x120 to x800 your bet. That said, the base game is somewhat dull, and the win potential here is not terrific.
Bonus Features
The main star of this slot is its Money Cart Bonus game. It is the reason to play Money Train. You activate it by landing the bonus symbol simultaneously on the first, third, and fifth reel. Alternatively, you can buy your way into this round via the Buy Feature. It will take you to a new train cart, one that features a new grid with twenty individual symbol positions.
So, once inside the bonus round, the number of reels can expand to seven, and new symbols come into play, such as tumbleweeds, purple Scatters, and five extra ones. Each will have its behavior. For example, the Widener symbol (Mexican Outlaw) reveals a bet multiplier and opens a new reel. The Collector (Native Outlaw) collects the visible multipliers and adds them to its value. Look at the paytable to get a good grasp of how the bonus game works.
The key here is to hit the Widener symbol and open additional reels, which will give you more opportunities to land multipliers en route to reaching the prize worth x20,000 your bet.
GOSU Verdict
While the base game is boring, the unique bonus feature is what makes Money Train appealing. It’s suspenseful and offers substantial wins. Visually, the game is par for the course with what’s out there. It will not dazzle you, but it’s decent. It looks and plays well across Android, iOS, and desktop platforms and is a quality offering for mid to low-rollers.
