Rock’N’Lock Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

We here at BTCGOSU are not strangers to Red Tiger slots. Going by our count, this should be our twelfth review of a game developed by the former EGR Mobile Gaming Supplier of the Year. Now operating under the wing of the live dealer behemoth Evolution, Red Tiger is still churning out high-quality reel spinners like nobody’s business. And Rock’N’Lock is the third title this company unleashed in August 2022. It debuted on exclusive platforms on August 23rd and then got a wide release on September 8th. Looking at the stats, it has yet to break through into the top one hundred rankings in many of the primary interactive gaming markets, but it looks cool, so we decided to give it some attention by telling you if it is a play or pass.

Theme & Design

What is the theme of Rock’N’Lock? Well, the name of this game should tell you that. It is rock and roll, the musical genre that appeared in the US in the late-1940s and dominated the 1950s. According to the experts, it originated from gospel, boogie-woogie, country, and rhythm and blues music. The setting here is likely California, given the number of palm trees featured in this slots’ street backdrop during the high of the rock and roll craze, the 1950s. The game’s title character is a greaser. That is a member of a working-class youth subculture prevalent in the 1950s, particularly among Latino and Italian Americans. The one depicted here has a James Dean vibe to him.

The visuals here are colorful painterly graphics akin to those that Pragmatic Play utilizes. The backdrop is an image of a city street, with a record shop in the foreground, located on what is seemingly a walk-of-fame-like sidewalk. A welcome sign and some light animations try to give a touch of movement to what is primarily a flat image. The reels in Rock’N’Lock spin inside a sign frame with that classic 1950s design.

The music used by Red Tiger is appropriate for the era, though a bit too repetitive for our taste. It sounds a bit bland and gets too aggressive when you get close to activating a bonus feature.

The button configuration is the usual Red Tiger one, meaning the spin and turbo spin functions are on the right side of the screen, and the auto-spin and bet-adjuster are on the left. The info balance is in the top left corner, and entry into the settings page can get found via a hamburger icon in the top right.

Specs & Gameplay

The lowest wager Rock’N’Lock accepts is $0.1, and the highest is $500. That caught us by surprise, as we did not expect this title to allow high-roller action. The max win setting on this game is x2,340, and the variance is medium, paired with an RTP of 94.67% by default. Rock’N’Lock implements a 5×4 layout with twenty-five paylines. Prize combos here form on adjacent reels, from left to right.

The low-pay tokens of this Red Tiger release are A to 10 royals. They get depicted in a neon-like style in different colors paying from x0.8 to x2 for five-of-a-kind combinations. The high-pay ones are a violet guitar, a golden mic, a green radio, and a pink car. These award wins of x5 to x12 when five identical symbols for these batches stop in view on the same spin.

The greaser is the Wild, substituting all the pay tokens to help more easily create winning combos. You also have Gold and Platinum record Scatters. These trigger this slot’s bonus round.

Bonus Features

Essentially, there is only one bonus feature in this slot. It triggers when you hit three or more record symbols (with money values attached) on the grid. When that happens, the Lock the Record mode starts, giving you three, four, or five respins, depending on the number of activating Scatters. Note that here the records lock in place, and each time a new one appears, planting itself on the layout, the respin meter will reset to its initial count and the landed Scatter will boost the other records in view by its value. When this mode ends, the amounts on the records get tallied, with the game paying out a sizeable prize. And, if you manage to fill the entire screen with records. In other words, keep landing Scatters in this mode until there is one in every position. That accomplishment will double the rewards listed on all the hit records.

Platinum record Scatters feature higher money values attached than gold ones.

GOSU Verdict

We must be honest and tell you that we expected loads more from this spinner. It got created by Red Tiger’s in-house development studio R7 and is one of their weakest showings, in our opinion. The game looks decent and has a high-end presentation, but the lack of bonus rounds killed any enthusiasm we had for Rock’N’Lock. Moreover, its specifications are nothing to write home about. So, for us, the rockabilly theme and the hold-and-win mechanic were not enough to give this Red Tiger title our recommendation. We say – it is a pass. Nolimit City’s The Rave and Play’n GO’s the Playing Piano Club are better music-inspired reel-spinning adventures that deserve to get played far more than this online casino product.
