Reel King Mega Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

Okay, we have been slacking off when it comes to Red Tiger Gaming reel-spinners. For the uninformed, this premium game provider entered the interactive gaming industry in 2014. However, in September of 2019, it got acquired by NetEnt for over $300 million. Technically, since Evolution Gaming recently bought out NetEnt, Red Tiger now operates under that umbrella.

The Red Tiger team has been quite productive in its seven-year existence, churning out close to 200 titles. Reel King Mega is currently their most played one, which is why we have decided to give it a look. Released in May of 2019, this reel-spinner instantly attained massive popularity and has not let go of it since, maintaining it in the top 20. Note that this is Red Tiger’s version of the Novamatic machine – Reel King. So, much of its success stems from its pre-established fan base. See it as an upgrade of the Green Tube product.

Theme & Design

Okay, so the theme here is classic Vegas fruit machines. You know the type, you’ve seen them in movies like Casino and the Cooler. Their name derives from the fact that their symbols are different fruits. Usually, these are cherries, plums, and lemons. Well, Reel King Mega incorporates some of these and aims to get you with a hint of nostalgia mixed in with some modern gameplay. The main character here is a cartoony king with an egg-shaped head and a Salvador Dali-like mustache. It is the same one from the Novomatic slot.

Reel King Mega’s backdrop is a park or castle court of some kind with a red overlay. The reels spin in a grid that is reminiscent of old Flash games. The entire slot has a Flash vibe. All the symbols are 2D images that more-or-less mirror those of older fruit machines. However, the Reel King himself is a 3D model. When he appears on the screen, he carries with him a one-row, three-reel mini-slot. There is no soundtrack in the base game. You only hear sound effects when you spin. Again, these are the same as in the original. Once you see the Reel King on your screen, then you will hear some medieval-era instrumental music.

The button configuration here is simple. You have the large spin button on the right side of your screen, with the turbo one next to it. The bet-adjuster is on your left, and next to it is the auto-spin function. In the top right of your screen, you have the mute and settings options. There you will also find the button for the full-screen mode.

Specs & Gameplay

Reel King Mega is a five-reel, three-row slot with twenty paylines. Unlike most games that we review on BTCGOSU, this one is a low variance spinner with a max prize of only x500 your stake. That said, its max bet option is $200. The minimum wager that you can place on these reels is $0.1. Reel King’s RTP varies depending on which version you play. Some operators may offer it with a jackpot prize. In that case, it will come with an RTP as high as 96.17%. Those versions without such a reward have a max return-to-player of 95.13%. Red Tiger likes to keep most of their games in the 96% range. You win prizes in this game when you hit three to five identical symbols on adjacent reels.

The low-paying symbols here are cherries, plums, 10s, and Js. Hitting five-of-a-kind from this batch will get you a win that is worth x2 to x3 of your bet. The high-paying ones are the letters Q and K and a bag of gold. Five identical symbols from this group will win you a reward of x5 to x25 your stake. Naturally, the bag of gold coins is the most valuable token of these three. The Wild is the word itself, and it substitutes for all other symbols. Every one of these can land in a 2×2 size.

The King’s Crown may appear at random during your gameplay. It jumps around the grid and transforms regular symbols into Wilds.

Bonus Features

There is only one bonus feature in this slot aside from the jumping King’s Crown. That is the Reel King one. Since there are no Scatters here, the Reel King shows up when all five reels turn from blue to yellow. When this happens, up to five kings can show up, and they each have a one-row, three-reel, mini-slot of their own. These will spin until you land a win. The max prize you can get out of this bonus round is x500 your stake.

GOSU Verdict

Reel King Mega is not what the modern-day spinner has grown accustomed to playing. Thus, this game aims to appeal to fans of this well-established series and those who crave simple gameplay. Red Tiger did not put this game out to compete with new releases or introduce anything novel. Their goal was to exploit a known brand by capturing older demographics and reeling in a few new curious players. They have done that well, so we cannot judge. If you are a newbie who wants straightforward reel action that can frequently generate small wins, play it. Otherwise, stay away.
