Hustling Slot Review
As we have talked about ad nauseam in our past Red Tiger reviews, this company has been on fire recently. Without a shadow of a doubt, we can say that 2021 was the year of Red Tiger. And, they decided to end it by releasing a slot that mimics one from our best-rated developer of 2020, Nolimit City, East Coast vs. West Coast. Hustling came out in mid-December, and to no one’s surprise, it instantly had players hooked. At the time of writing, it treads water, ready to break through to the top fifty rankings any day now. Parties that are super curious to know if this is a cheap knock-off of Nolimit’s East Coast vs. West Coast, one that is hoping to benefit from the popularity of that slot, or if it is something entirely new and of a specific quality, should read on. Below, we provide the lowdown on Red Tiger’s Hustling.
Theme & Design
The subject matter of this game is the legendary 1990s feud between rappers from the West Coast and those residing on the East side of the US. Notable artists that composed the latter group were Notorious BIG, DMX, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and the Wu-Tang Clan. The West Coast rappers were Tupac Shakur, Ice Cube, Ice T, and Dr. Dre. The rivalry culminated with murders on both sides, and it heavily influenced pop culture.
The presentation here is similar to the Nolimit game. It divides the screen into two sections. The left one represents California, and the right one is New York. The graphics are painterly, and they are rich in color. The ones inside the reel grid are more vibrant than those in the background image. As expected, this slot features some dope, low-key beats in its base gameplay, which amp up a bit in the Free Spins round. Even though this is a slot about rap, the music featured in this game has no lyrics. There are chant sound effects, and the two main characters, at times, spit out a word or two. In our opinion, Hustling would have greatly benefited from some action commentary and a richer soundtrack, with actual rap songs in it.
The button configuration implemented in this Red Tiger release is the same one this company uses nowadays. The spin and turbo-spin buttons are on the bottom right side of your screen, while the auto-spin function and the bet-adjuster are in the lower-left corner.
Specs & Gameplay
Hustling is a five-reel, three-row game with ten paylines (both ways). It is a high variance product with a default RTP of 95.69%. This return-to-player percentage can drop to 91% at some operators and go as high as 96% at others. The wager sizes here go from $0.10 to $100, and the most you can hope to win is a prize worth x3,151 your stake.
The low-paying symbols of Hustling are graffiti royals, A to 10. These pay x4 to x12 for five-of-a-kind. The high-paying tokens of this slot are a violet baseball cap, three spray cans, a boom box, a sneaker, and a gold chain. They generate rewards in the x30 to x200 range.
The game’s two main characters are an East Coast and a West Coast rapper, and they both act as super reel Wilds. That means that they cover all positions on their reels.
Bonus Features
If you manage to land Wilds on both the first and fifth reel, simultaneously, you will enter the Free Spins round and get awarded ten complimentary reel rotations. Before this feature begins, you will have to pick a side, East Coast or West Coast. Know that in this mode, both stacked Wilds get locked, and you kick things off with an x1 multiplier in play. When a Wild participates in a winning combo, its multiplier grows by one. If the mode ends and your chosen side/Wild has the higher multiplier, you will get awarded ten complimentary reel rotations. Remember that if both Wilds are a part of a winning line, their multiplier values get multiplied by each other, and then they get applied to your winning combo.
GOSU Verdict
Good, but not great. That is our verdict concerning Hustling. In our opinion, it does not compare with Nolimt City’s East Coast vs. West Coast. However, as a standalone game, Hustling is more than decent. Though, we believe that it lacks a bit of flavor. If you are a rap fan, try it out for sure. If you are a casual slot enthusiast, there are more engaging reel-spinning products out there. Still, you may want to give this one a look-see. It features a pretty decent RTP for a high variance title, and its max exposure is not horrible either.
