Dog Town Deal Slot Review
We have not done a Quickspin slot review in a while. The last game from this provider we looked at was Beastwood in October 2022. We recently read that Quickspin is entering the live table market, looking to provide competition to companies like Pragmatic Play Live and VIVO Gaming. It will implement technology it has at its disposal through the Playtech group to mount this feat while remaining active in the slot realm.
We have always liked Quickspin spinners, with Cash Truck ranking as one of our favorite games ever. In 2023, this provider has only released five games so far, and here we will be looking at Dog Town Deal, a title that hit exclusive gaming sites on March second, 2023. It should get a global release at the end of April, so when you are reading this, chances are that it may not yet be available on your chosen platform. However, when and if it does appear there, please check it out, as we loved playing this game, and below, we explain why.
Theme & Design
Dog Town Deal is an interesting game in terms of theme, as one can say that it has several. The first and most obvious is canines, but the setting here is the roaring 20s, with a highlighted art deco style used throughout this slot. So, those are also valid answers. Also, it is not wrong to claim that dogs playing cards is another heavy motif in play here, inspired by a collection of sixteen oil paintings commissioned in 1903 for advertising cigars by the Minesota-based Brown & Bigelow company. We can sum up and proclaim that Dog Town Deal is about an anthropomorphized canine world set in 1920s New York, where a cast of characters inhabits a high-end casino, meeting at a blackjack table. For the uninformed, art deco is a movement in architecture and the decorative arts that originated from Paris’ Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925 and then moved to the US, where it found a home in New York City. Many of the most famous NYC buildings boast this style, which at the time was synonymous with wealth and sophistication, representing a traditional elegance.
The music here is on point. It has that ragtime, swing vibe linked with the 1920s. The sound effects are loud and overbearing, as they usually are in modern spinners, but we will not gripe about that. We do like some of the drum noises and how they build tension. The visuals here are painterly images of dogs in human clothing. The scientific term for this got used above – anthropomorphized canines. The 5×3 grid in Dog Town Deal spins in front of a blackjack table, with a hazy background where two suave-looking German Shepards stand on the right, with a poodle in a fur coat left of the grid layout. The graphics here are nice to look at, and overall we feel the presentation is top-notch.
The main buttons get presented in a vertical stack right of the game area in a desktop browser, starting with the bet adjuster on the bottom and the settings icon on the top. You can also select your wager size using plus and minus controllers below the reel grid, where you will also find your balance and win info.
Specs & Gameplay
Dog Town Deal is a low-to-medium variance slot with a default RTP of 94.19%, which is much lower than what we expected it to be. The max win here is x1,231, and according to some official info, it should get provided once every 98 million spins. Please understand that this is a low-to-medium variance game, so it is unlikely to generate dramatic wins.
The action in Dog Town Deal transpires on a 5×3 grid with twenty paylines, where the lowest bet possible is $0.2 and the highest is $100. Wins here occur when three or more matching symbols land on a payline. The low-pay tokens are different-colored chips, producing wins of x5 for five instances of any from this group stopping in view on the same spin. The premiums of this game are four dog characters, which give away wins of x15 if the three medium-pay dogs appear on the grid in groups of five, and the high-paying pit boss German Shepard creates rewards of x60 when he shows up five times on the same reel rotation.
The letter W is the wild here, worth x120 for five-of-a-kind combinations, and face-down cards with the Quickspin logo are the scatters.
Bonus Features
When two face-down cards pop up, they activate the Deal feature. That means that they turn over, and if their total is above sixteen, a win multiplier of up to x15 (for twenty-one) gets paid out.
If you hit three to five scatters, then you will get seven, ten, or fifteen complimentary reel rotations in the Dog Town Bonus Round. Landing winning combos in this mode will supply you with Blackjack hand cards. Three-of-a-kind combos give you one, four-card-combos two, and five-of-a-kind combinations three. These remain below the layout until your Blackjack hand gets formed. As you make winning hands, you move up the multiplier ladder en route to the max multiplier of x1,000. If rounds end, but you have gotten left with one card, the mode goes on until you can make your hand, referred to as the Dog Town Deal.
To automatically gain entry to this feature, you must pay a fee of x50. That guarantees activation of this mode with at least three activating scatters.
GOSU Verdict
Maybe it is because we are dog lovers, but we found Dog Town Deal super charming. We are also fans of when anyone introduces a somewhat novel feature. Dog Town Deal does that, which makes us look past its modest stats. If you are a fan of blackjack and slots, then this is the game for you. Quickspin has wowed us in the past with presentations in some of their games, and the company’s design team does an excellent job here too. This slot may not be the finest thing you’ll play this month, but it for sure will steal a smile or two and offer a dose of decent reel-spinning fun if you give it a shot.
