The Knight King Slot Review
Pragmatic Play is always in the News, and this past month, they have made headlines for expanding their presence in Brazil via a partnership with SA Esports, in Colombia, and in Switzerland, through a deal with Swiss Casinos. But, they have also garnered attention with a new medieval-themed slot named the Knight King that promises to send players back in time and which has entered the top ten rankings in multiple markets. At the time of writing, this is even the most played online slot in several regions, including the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, and China. It first showed up online at select platforms on March 6th, 2023, and it then got a wide release ten days later, promising rudimentary gameplay with Pragmatic Play’s signature visuals and alluring win potential.
Theme & Design
As mentioned, the theme here is medieval times. Per our count, there are around three hundred and fifty Middle Ages-inspired reel spinners in the digital sphere, with this one currently ranking at the top of the overall playability heap. Other titles from this category that are doing well with games of chance mavens worldwide are Book of Books by Peter and Sons, Chests of Gold from All41Studios, and Play’n GO’s the Sword and the Grail. Pragmatic Play recently (in January 2023) released a Robin Hood motif gaming product. We guess it can get classified as a medieval slot. And we should note that it is also still doing well in most markets. For those historically unsavvy readers, the Middle Ages is usually a label that gets put on the period from the fifth century CE to the 15th. It is a time of dramatic European demographic/urban growth and economic/territorial expansion.
There is not much to say about this game’s presentation that we have not already said about most Pragmatic Play spinners. It implements this provider’s signature painterly graphic style, with characters that would look at home in a children’s storybook. Though, they have a crisper beveled and embossed look. The setting here is a mountainous region with a castle in the background, and the reels spin in a nicely ornamented frame. The free spins mode takes place in front of a castle at night, and there is a dragon flying in the background, with the moon left of the game logo serving as the single illumination source in this mode. The animations that materialize on wins are nice, but in the bonus round, they are rather annoying, and the same goes for their audio effects, which have a game show vibe that is not in line with the primary theme of this game. They interrupt the entire set atmosphere with the medieval base soundtrack. And the chants and howlers are a much-unneeded touch. They just do not fit in.
The button configuration in the Knight King is the same one this Malta-based company always uses. It holds the spin and bet adjuster functions in the bottom right corner of the screen and the info/setting button on the opposite side.
Specs & Gameplay
As is usually the case for most high-variance Pragmatic Play titles, the max exposure of this game is x5,000, and in theory, this win gets supplied once every twelve million spins. The default RTP of Knight King is 96.05%. Though, it can range dramatically from operator to operator. The betting range here moves from $0.2 to $100, and the layout is the industry standard 5×3 one, with twenty paylines.
Wins in the Knight King get formed when you land three to five matching tokens on one of the twenty pre-defined paylines. Free spin wins get complied to payline ones, and all symbols pay left to right, with the highest prize per line getting provided.
The low-pay symbols here are A-10 royals in an old-timey font, and they generate wins of x1 to x2.5 for five-of-a-kind combinations. The premiums are a horse, a princess, a knight, and a dragon. These pay rewards of x3.5 to x7.5 for five identical instances of each appearing on the same reel rotation, stopping in view. The wild of the Knight King slot is a horse badge, and it substitutes all the pay tokens, yielding wins of x15 when he shows up five times on a spin. The scatter is a knight-in-armor token, only appearing on the first, third, and fifth reels.
Bonus Features
Hitting three scatters on the cited reels activates seven on-the-house reel rotations, and prior to each round beginning, one pay token (or wild) gets picked to be the Special Money symbol for the feature. At the start of it, this image takes on an arbitrary value from a predefined set, which is up to x7 for regular pay tokens and from x11 to x20 for the wild. Moreover, regular pay symbols/wild can randomly become special on base game spins, landing with a value attached.
During the bonus mode of this slot, these multipliers get collected and awarded. You must land two scatters in this feature to get four more complimentary reel rotations. Know that every time a multiplier collection happens, the value of the Special Money tokens jumps by a random sum from the mentioned possible sets of values.
Those unwilling to wait to enter this bonus mode organically can buy their entry for a cost of x80 their stake.
GOSU Verdict
The Knight King slot is your run-of-the-mill Pragmatic Play product. If you have experience with this company’s releases, you have played this game multiple times before in other clothing. There is nothing unique about it. The visuals are more-or-less par the course, nice-looking, yet mediocre, and the gameplay system implemented is rudimentary for this modern age. Or should we say uninspiring? It is an Okay spinner for casual online gamblers and newbies but not something that will intrigue players with some time under their belts. Our verdict is not to test the Knight King if you are in the mood for Medieval reel-spinning fun, as better choices exist at virtually all crypto casinos.
