Mystery Mice Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

Pragmatic Play is always up to something. In the month leading up to us reviewing their Mystery Mice slot, we saw that it branched out dramatically in the Brazilian market with a Brazilian version of Mega Roulette live, and it partnered with Caesars Digital in Ontario, further cementing its status as a top player in this Canadian province. These are only a few of the headlines we saw in the past few weeks regarding this company. Other noteworthy bits of news we noticed included the extension of its partnerships with Betmotion, a famed Latin bingo operator; Rizik, a Betsson Brand; KirolBet Spain; and others.

Some may say that Pragmatic Play’s recent stream of releases has somewhat gotten lost in the shuffle, but that is not the case, as gamblers from all corners are always eager to check out what this provider is up to, even though most of its games are pretty average. Mystery Mice is a Pragmatic spinner that debuted on September 9th, 2024, and for which this supplier’s COO, Irina Cornides, claims is a product that boosts this developer’s catalog diversity by introducing a whimsical theme and new power wilds. In the first week following it getting set loose on casino sites globally, it did fairly well virtually everywhere, ranking in the top one hundred most-played games in most markets. Here, we dive deep into this novel Pragmatic Play spinner and see what we think of it.

Theme & Design

What is the theme here? We would say that this game is a mouse motif that is complemented by a detective theme of the Sherlock Holmes variety. Without question, Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional detective is the slotverse’s most present solver of crimes and mysteries occurring on digital reels. Around forty slots have him as a central figure, and the most played ones of these are Yggdrasil Sherlock Holmes and the Stolen Stones, Play’n GO’s Riddle Reels, and Sherlock and Moriarty WowPot from Just For The Win. In terms of mouse games, there are not that many where these creatures take center stage. You can find them featured along with cats and dogs, but they rarely get their slots. Some rare examples include Betsoft’s Spring Tails, Kalambra’s Rumble Ratz – Hold the Cheese, and Tree of Light by Evoplay. We cannot think of any other reel-spinning product that blends mice and Sherlock Holmes together. Thus, this may be a slot first.

As you would expect, this game looks good. It has 1920s swing-like music coupled with some classic, high-quality painterly graphics and some decent animations. The base gaming fun here transpires in what appears to be a London alley, with the reels spinning inside a gate-style concrete structure with lanterns on both ends. The free spin bonus here takes place inside the mouse detective’s office, and Pragmatic Play’s team again has chosen to recycle some sound effects here, ones it has used in other games.

As a whole, we would rate the presentation here as decent, but a bit overly repetitive, and not dynamic or exciting enough. We were not fans of the win sound effects, and the prize animations took too long in our opinion. As far as the button configuration goes, it is the standard Pragmatic Play one.

Specs & Gameplay

What we have here is a cluster-pay title with a 6×6 grid and a max exposure setting of the Pragmatic Play classic of x5,000 your stake. What this game does not diverge from is also its creator’s customary betting range, which starts at $0.20 per spin and goes up to $240. The variance level here is high, and the hit frequency is one in three. Mystery Mice comes in three RTP versions, with the most common one being 96.49%, and the other two are 95.55% and 94.48%.

To get a reward in this reel-spinning gaming product, you must form clusters of five or more identical tokens. You have three low-pay royals, Q, K, and A, paying x20, x25, and x30, respectively, for clusters of fifteen matching tokens. Then come the pipe and hat, which are this game’s medium-pay tokens, supplying wins of x40 and x50, respectively, for clusters of fifteen. Then come the three mice characters, which are the premiums, delivering wins of x60 to x150 for clusters of fifteen.

A magnifying glass is the scatter in Mystery Mice, and we should highlight that this is a cascading slot, or, as Pragmatic Play puts it, a game that implements the Tumble feature. Regarding the power wilds mentioned above, we will elaborate on these below.

Bonus Features

Power wilds are posters, and aside from substituting the regular pay symbols, they also come with a clearance level of up to ten. Every time a wild contributes to a win combo, its clearance level decreases by one, and as long it has a value higher than one, it won’t explode during a tumble. Instead, it will move to the lowest position on its reel.

Getting three or more magnifying glass scatters to stop in view activates this game’s free spin round, giving you eight complimentary gambling rounds with each scatter awarding x1 your bet. In this mode, the wilds remain on the reels between spins, and power-up tokens show up, adding one to three clearance levels on all visible wilds. Hitting more scatters in this feature gives you extra spins to enjoy in this round.

Note that access to the free spin bonus is available for a price of x100.

GOSU Verdict

We have heard loads of positive things about the Mystery Mice online slot from some of our fellow crypto gamblers, but honestly, we do not see too many praiseworthy things here. I guess people are taking a shine to this spinner because of the popularity of the cluster-pay mechanic teamed up with the cascading one. That is a combo that does pretty well nowadays and one many like. Plus, the added power wilds/clearance levels, for sure, spice things up enough for some. We do not fall into this group, as while we think that Mystery Mice is Okay, we would not call it anything special. For us, it felt a tad duller than expected.
