Medusa’s Stone Slot Review
In late May 2024, we saw a piece of news that Pragmatic Play selected to allow Hub88, a game aggregator making headlines, to be the first to offer its Medusa’s Stone slot as a means to strengthen this entity’s position in the sphere as a trusted game distributor. If you are a hard-core BTCGOSU reader, following everything we post, you may have become aware of Hub88 from a news posting where we talked about how Stake partnered with BetBlocker to promote responsible gaming. We mentioned that Stake teamed up with Hub88 in early May of this year, making this entity a preferred aggregation partner.
We found it interesting that Pragmatic Play had chosen Hub88 to get one of their titles for an exclusive early launch, making this game initially available for two weeks at platforms working with Hub88 only. Because of this, we made a note to check out this spinner, which we are doing here.
Theme & Design
Technically, this is an Ancient Greece slot, of which there are probably over a thousand now. Yet, we choose to focus on Medusa as this game’s prime motif. For mythology lovers, Medusa is a renowned figure featured in loads of movies, most prominently the Clash of the Titans films, old and new. She is the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto, a sea god and sea monster whose look can turn humans into stone. But, more famously, she has snakes for hair. In Greek mythology, and in Clash of the Titans, she gets killed by Perseus, the demigod son of Zeus, after getting tricked by his shield.
We are unsure of how many online slots Medusa appears in. But there are loads of interactive gaming products featuring her, for sure. Some of the most recent ones are Power of Gods: Medusa Extreme (Hold the Jackpot) by Wazdan and Stone Gaze of Medusa from Stakelogic. And from older releases, we know of Games Global’s Stash of the Titans and this provider’s Mount Olympus – The Revenge of Medusa. So, slot studios like her quite a bit.
There is no doubt that Medusa’s Stone is one of the better-looking titles with this mythological figure. The style here does not stray far from what Pragmatic Play usually does concerning presentation. But they have opted to go with some more realistic character images here than what they usually do. The reels here spin inside a column structure in Medusa’s lair. You get symbol animations after winning spins and some pretty standard sound effects. The game also features some announcement sound bites, and we hate that it has Super Win gold coin animations that feature a game show-like tune. That really took us out of this game.
You get the usual Pragmatic Play button setup in Meduas’s Stone, and we would rate this title’s presentation as slightly below average for Pragmatic Play. There is nothing original here, and the visuals are too repetitive, even for the basic gameplay presented, and we got bored by them quickly.
Specs & Gameplay
The layout of this Pragmatic Play creation is 3-4-4-4-3 with twenty paylines. The hit frequency here is one in four (according to various sources), and the free spin activation one is one in one hundred and eighty-four, on average. The return-to-player of Medusa’s Stone can range, boasting three settings. These are 94.50%, 95.54%, and 96.46%. The variance of this game is high. Its betting range is now the standard Pragmatic Play one of $0.20 to $240, and the max exposure is x7,000. That is higher than what most other products from this provider list. Per the stat sheet, the odds of you landing such a win are around one in twenty-three million.
You claim rewards in this reel spinner by having three to five identical tokens stop in view in your gaming round. The game has three royals, A, K, and Q, which pay x10 for five-of-a-kind symbols appearing on the same spin. It has two item symbols. These are a sword and a helmet that pay x2 when five matching swords of helmets land, and you get four character tokens in Medusa’s Stone. The latter produce prizes from x5 to x25 for five-of-a-kind combos. We do not know who these characters are, but they can hit as wilds, and we assume that one is Perseus.
Bonus Features
There are two bonus features in this slot. The first is the Medusa Spin, which got activated frequently in our session. It can do so on any spin, and when it gets triggered, the character tokens that appear in this game’s middle three reels (the ones with four positions) morph into wilds, substituting the other pay ones you see on this game’s layout.
As it is common for Pragmatic Play, you jump start the free spins bonus of Medusa’s Stone with three scatters (a green Medusa head). During this round, which awards ten on-the-house gaming rounds, Medusa Spins can activate, and the wilds get a random multiplier. If they do not get utilized on the current spin, they stay on the grid until you hit a winning combo. Their values can be up to x6, and if you hit three super bonus symbols (a red Medusa head), you go into the Super Free Spins, where x8 multipliers are in play, and you get better odds of triggering a Medusa Spin. If you want to buy your way into this round, you can, for a price of x200. The cost of purchasing the regular bonus mode in this slot is seventy-five times your stake.
GOSU Verdict
In our opinion, this slot is nothing to get excited about. We thought because it got featured in news articles and got provided as an exclusive game, that Pragmatic Play might have done something different here. Sadly, that is not the case. What you get in Medusa’s Stone is the typical Pragmatic Play fare, spiced up with a higher max win than usual and a Super Free Spin bonus. While Okay, there is no reason for you to search out this spinner. Keeping it 100%, we found it a bit boring.
