Released in May of 2020, Fruit Party was a moderate success for Pragmatic Play. The Malta-based developer may have recently branched off into providing live games, but they still churn out slots to online casinos at a decent pace. According to Pragmatic’s Chief Commercial Officer Melissa Summerfield, Fruit Party was an attempt at a fun offering for the summer of 2020. While the game has not proven to be a smash hit, it still pulls in substantial player numbers. It is an unoriginal reel-spinner that features the cluster-pay system and plenty of multipliers.

Theme & Design

What can we say in terms of Fruit Party’s theme and visual presentation? If we had to narrow down a motif, we guess, it would be fruit. The best thing we can say to get across its feel is to describe it as somewhat of a mixture between Pragmatic’s Sweet Bonanza and Push Gaming’s highly-popular Jammin Jars.

The backdrop here features a landscape reminiscent of those in the Smurfs comic books and the old BBC animated series – The Poddington Peas. Magical cartoony nature with fruit-like houses that ooze tranquility and can lift your spirits at a glance. It is all green and sunny until you enter the Free Spins bonus round. Then, everything gets a tint of violet.

The reels spin in a slightly off-center frame as upbeat arcade music plays in the background. The Fruit Party logo is in the top left, and below it is the option to buy your way into the Free Spins round. The button’s panel is your standard modern Pragmatic play one. You can find the large spin button in the lower-right corner of the screen, and below it is the auto-spin one. The bet-adjusters are to the side of these two buttons, represented by the plus and minus symbols, and they let you set the wager values. The settings, mute, and info buttons are in the lower-left, and on the right of these is your credit and betting info.

Specs & Gameplay

Fruit Party plays out on a 7×7 grid, and it incorporates the cluster-pays, tumble-reels mechanics. There are no paylines here. Instead, wins happen when more than five matching symbols touch vertically or horizontally. If this happens, winning combos explode, and new fruits/stars/hearts fall in their place. Such a thing can keep repeating as long as these new symbols help new combos form. The process ends when tumbles stop producing new winning clusters.

Fruit Party has an RTP percentage of 96.5%, which is slightly higher than the industry standard. Surprisingly, unlike most of Pragmatic’s recent releases, this one has a medium variance. Bet sizes here range from $0.20 to $100 per spin, and the max win potential is a decent x5,000.

As you would expect, the majority of symbols in this game are fruits. However, there are also hearts and stars symbols, which form the smallest rewards for clusters of five to fifteen identical symbols. The fruits featured in this title are grapes, apples, oranges, and strawberries. Hit a combo of fifteen connected strawberries, and Fruit Party will pay out a win that’s x150 your bet. They are the most valuable symbol of the bunch. The golden fruit is the Scatter, and in all honesty, we cannot tell you what kind of fruit it represents, if any.

Bonus Features

When in the base game, any symbol that’s a part of the winning combo, at random, can show up carrying an x2 multiplier. Thus, all combinations get multiplied by the total amount of multipliers that are a part of them, up to x256.

If you happen to land three or more golden fruits in any position, you enter the Free Spins round. There, the reels turn icy blue, and you kick things off with ten complimentary spins. You can keep landing Scatters inside this round, up to seven. The more Scatters you land, the more spins you get, up to fourteen. In this mode, instead of the random x2 multiplier, symbols can now carry an x4 one. Inside the Free Spins round is where you can reach the x5,000 multiplier. If you do, this mode instantly ends. You get your prize and forfeit all remaining gratis reel rotations.

GOSU Verdict

Frankly, Fruit Party proved a more enjoyable experience than expected. It reminded us of another Pragmatic Play offering – Fruit Rainbow. Though, that’s a pretty standard five-reel online slot. That said, despite incorporating the cluster and tumble mechanics, this is still a rather basic game. It is not bad if you are after lighthearted fun, and its win potential is sufficiently enticing. If you like Sweet Bonanza, this is similar to it, but with a medium variance. It is not a slot that most players will get overly excited about, but it’s worth a spinning session or two.
