Forge of Olympus Slot Review
Pragmatic Play offloads these high-ranking reel spinners, making us review them and clog up our library with articles analyzing this company’s products. Coming off the heels of the brand’s South American (Brazil) expansion, it unleashed Forge of Olympus, an Ancient Greece-themed slot that attempts to capitalize on the series of the super popular – Gates of Olympus and the subsequent mythology titles that that game inspired. Forge of Olympus first got an exclusive release on August 1st. And then it got wide distribution on the 17th of that month. It is trending superbly right now, positioning itself in the top ten rankings in multiple top markets, including Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Finland, the Netherlands, and Brazil. So, let us see if the hype is justified and what all the fuss is about.
Theme & Design
As you likely know, game developers and online gamblers are crazy about historical and mythology slots. The primary reason why there are so many of these games is that providers do not have to pay any rights for using characters that the whole world knows. Hence, they get instant recognition for free. Olympus is Greece’s highest mountain, and in this country’s culture, their mythos, it was the home of the gods, who live on the peak of Mytikas. In the slotverse, around a hundred and thirty spinners feature this summit in their presentation in some way, and aside from Pragmatic Play’s Ancient Greece creations, other popular ones that incorporate somehow include many of Playtech Age of the Gods games, NetEnt’s Parthenon – Quest for Immortality, and entries in Spinomenal’s Demi Gods franchise.
We usually note that Pragmatic Play likes to stick to its now cliché painterly illustration style. Well, they have changed things up in Forge of Olympus, opting for a more 3D-based approach. Hephaestus, the god of carpenters, craftspeople, blacksmiths, and fire, stands right of the 6×5 golden-framed reel grid, looking like a Mister Olympia (pun intended) contestant, wielding a mighty hammer. Behind him is a firey landscape and a bit of amber flying across the screen in this game, coming from its bottom left corner. The music here is dramatic and movie soundtrack-like. The sound effects are par the course, and the same goes for the big-win animations, where the audio seems out of place, theme-wise. The free spins feature a different backdrop, one with stone columns, likely representing the Parthenon, and the music there is faster. Note that fire is a strong motif in Forge of Olympus.
The buttons interface is your standard Pragmatic Play one, so you have your win/credit/bet info in the middle of the semi-transparent panel, with your spin functions to the right and settings options on the left.
Specs & Gameplay
The reel-spinning action here plays out on a 5×6 layout with no paylines. Instead, a pay-anywhere system gets employed here that supplies rewards for eight or more identical tokens landing on the game grid on the same spin. The variance level of Forge of Olympus is high, the max win stands at x5,000, and the RTP setting, by default, is 96.25%. Though, this game can also get found boasting an RTP of 93.96% or 95.04%. The odds of hitting its max prize stand at one to fifteen million, and the betting range of this slot moves from $0.2 to $100. Oh, and this title implements the cascading engine, so winning symbols disappear, allowing new ones to take their spots.
The low-pay tokens of Forge of Olympus are different colored gems, supplying top prizes of x2 to x8 for twelve to thirty identical ones landing on the reels on the same spin. The high-pay premiums are a golden triangle, a ring, a chalice, a helmet, and a shield with Medusa’s head on it. Hitting twelve or more matching symbols from this batch will yield prizes of x10 to x50.
Hephaestus is the scatter, producing wins of x100 when he shows up on the 5×6 layout six times, and there is no wild in Forge of Olympus.
Bonus Features
Not shocking to anyone, we assume, there aren’t loads of extra features in this game. Pragmatic Play rarely loads up its releases with multiple bonus modes. It usually adds two. While they surprised us in the presentation department, the same does not hold for the bonus side of things.
The hammer acts as a multiplier token here, and it can appear in the free spins or the base gameplay. When it does, it can have values up to x100. And when a cascading sequence concludes, these get added up and applied.
The mentioned free spins round triggers when four, five, or six scatters materialize in view, meaning the game is ready to give away ten, fifteen, or twenty on-the-house spins, respectively. Know that this mode has a progressive feature that begins at level one, and each time a multiplier shows up, these tokens get collected to a meter, which can level up to four. In the first level, you get multiplier values from x2 to x100. In the second, the minimum multiplier is x8. In the third, it is x15. And in the last, it is x50. If you happen to hit three scatters in the free spin mode, you will get awarded five more extra spins. You can buy your way into a desirable level for prices of x100, x200, x400, and x500 for level four instant entry, and you have an ante wager choice in Forge of Olympus that doubles your win feature chances.
GOSU Verdict
Without any reservation, we will say that many of Pragmatic Play’s releases all feel and play the same. In our opinion, of course. However, they have decided to mix things up a bit with Forge of Olympus, or that is what gamblers who have not played Santa’s Great Gifts may think. The reality is that this game is more or less a duplicate of that one, except with a new façade. It is Okay, but we cannot go past the impression that this famed provider is recycling games and putting out products just to put some more slots onto the online gambling landscape. While decent, Forge of Olympus is not something we would go out of our way to play. It has the typical Pragmatic specs and gameplay experienced players have already seen.
