Fangtastic Freespins Slot Review
For the 2024 Halloween season, one of our favorite slot developers, the super prolific Pragmatic Play, decided to unleash a werewolf slot onto the online gambling landscape, one boasting a Teen Wolf motif. We will explain this in the subheading below if you do not know what that is. Here, we will tell you that this title debuted on October 22nd, 2024, at exclusive casinos, and then it got its global distribution six days later, making a sizeable splash the day it dropped worldwide.
We say this because Fangtastic (clever) Freespins entered the top thirty rankings in multiple high-profile markets as soon as it became available there. Of course, this should not come as a major shock to anyone, given Pragmatic Play’s high-profile nature and the fact that most of their creations do super well upon launch. However, even though this is one of the sector’s most renowned players, it is one that has earned a reputation for making somewhat mediocre reel-spinning interactive gaming titles.
So, before sitting down to review this one, we did not have high hopes for it. Below, we inform you about everything this game has to offer, and if it surpassed our expectations, met them, or underwhelmed.
Theme & Design
The theme here is, naturally, werewolves. Or, one werewolf in particular. We ran a dedicated article on werewolf slots a few weeks back, which we advise you to check out if you are into this fictional creature, a staple of the horror genre. By our count, around one hundred lycanthrope-inspired spinners are floating out there in the online gambling realm. This uses the Teen Wolf franchise as its prime source of inspiration. In 1985, Michael J. Fox starred as Scott Howard, a seventeen-year-old high school student who magically turned into a werewolf, and Scott became a star player on his high school basketball team. Wacky, huh? The film grossed $80 million at the US box office on a budget of $4 million, and it spawned a 2011 teen TV drama by the same name, which aired on MTV. It ran for six seasons and was the fourth entry in this franchise.
Can we call Fangtastic Freespins a new one? Well, no, since this game only pays homage to the Teen Wolf concept and is a much more cartoony romp whose visuals are somewhat of a departure from what Pragmatic Play’s team usually creates. They are more saturated and more like something out of a child-targeted cartoon. They are not very enticing if we are honest, and in our eyes, a step down for Pragmatic. The soundtrack used is Okay, and so are the howling sound effects. The base game plays out in a cave, and the free spin bonus happens outside it, with a pink-lit forest acting as the backdrop. The music in this bonus mode is much better and something straight out of the 1980s.
The button configuration here is the usual Pragmatic Play one, with the spin functions on the right, and the settings, info, mute buttons on the left of this semitransparent panel, which houses the credit and bet info next to the info icon.
Overall, we would say that Fangtastic Freespins looks Okay, with the audio side of things here being better than the graphics. We quite liked some of the music and audio effects in this slot.
Specs & Gameplay
What we have here is a 5×3 spinner with ten paylines that comes in three RTP iterations. The most common one is 96.51%, followed by two other variants of this slot with RTPs of 95.52% and 94.54%. The hit frequency here gets listed as 12.7, which is pretty disappointing. In theory, you should be able to activate the free spins mode of this game in one of every one hundred and eight gaming rounds. The max exposure of Fangtastic Freespins stands at x2,100, with a max win probability of one in 1,362,769 spins, and the variance level in play is high. The most you can bet in this werewolf title is the Pragmatic top bet standard of $240, and the lowest amount accepted is $0.1 per spin.
You get wins in Fangtastic Freespins by lining up three to five matching symbols on one of the ten paylines depicted on the rules page. The low-pay tokens of this product are A to 10 royals, producing wins of x10 for five-of-a-kind combinations. Their high-pay counterparts are a moon, a knife, a bottle, some lavender, and silver bullets. These symbols can yield wins from x20 to x200 when five identical ones hit in view.
The teen werewolf in the high school yellow sports jacket is the wild, and he appears on all the reels in the free spin bonus. His shar paw is the scatter, also showing up on all the layout columns.
Bonus Features
The moon, which is a premium, is also a money token appearing with values ranging from x2 to x2,000. Landing three to five scatters activates the bonus round of Fangtastic Freespins, giving you ten, fifteen, or twenty on-the-house gaming opportunities based on the number of hit scatters. During this bonus mode, every wild collects money symbols and grants an additional free spin, while every money symbol collected adds 1x the bet to the Blood Bank meter.
All the wilds get collected here, and every sixth one retriggers this feature, granting eight free spins and the current Blood Bank value. Each retrigger boosts the multiplier, first to x2, then to x3, applying to all future wins. On the 3rd retrigger, the max win gets awarded. If you have no desire to sit around and wait for this mode to pop up, you can buy it for a price of x100 in allowed jurisdictions.
GOSU Verdict
There is no doubt that this game primarily appeals to fans of Big Bass slots and all other game of chance online enthusiasts who find money-collecting slots cool. But we are pretty sure that it will fail to have a sizeable fan base after its five minutes of fame pass, as this is a pretty dull game, and the concept it presents has been done to death. Some may like it, but do not count us in this camp. The specs it has are also unappealing for us, and we assume for most of you.
