Eye of Cleopatra Slot Review
Yes, yes, we know. Another Pragmatic Play slot review goes up on BTCGOSU. It is not our fault, promise. If you look at Pragmatic’s release schedule for April, you will see that they had seven slots set to hit online casinos this month. These included Chicken Chase, Glover Gold, North Guardians, Bull Fiesta, Disco Lady, Peaky Blinders 2, and Eye of Cleopatra. Though, not in that order. Here we will look at the last-mentioned product from the list of seven we rattled off. Eye of Cleopatra debuted on April 6th, but it did not start to chart until the 19th when it entered the top hundred rankings in multiple markets. At writing, it was the 74th most-played spinner in Britain. And according to Yossi Barzely, Pragmatic’s Chief Business Development Officer, it aims to bring a mechanical twist to one of the sector’s favorite themes by concentrating its gameplay on ever-changing wild patterns.
Theme & Design
Cleopatra is one of the most famous figures from ancient Egypt. For the uninformed, she was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, married to the famous Roman politician and general, Mark Antony, from 32 BC to 30 BC. Online slot developers love her because she is a recognizable brand that almost everyone and the planet knows. Since Cleopatra is a historical figure, they can use her likeness and name without paying any licensing fee, which is a fantastic option for anyone in any entertainment industry, creating a product with a built-in fan base for nothing.
By our count, there are around one hundred and seventy-five internet reel-spinners that feature Cleopatra in some form or fashion. IGT’s 2012 Cleopatra slot remains the most popular of these, with this one nipping at its toes.
We often complement Pragmatic’s design team in coming up with above-average visuals for their games. Now, while Eye of Cleopatra looks nice, it does not boast the same level of presentation as other of the company’s titles. That is, in large part, due to the game mechanics this slot utilizes. The reel grid and other gameplay elements take too much screen real estate, making everything here feel crowded and not allowing the presentation to breathe or the background image to shine through. The soundtrack used is the typical Egyptian score. Which, if we are frank, we found boring.
The button configuration is the one Pragmatic always uses. The mute, settings, info, and bet/credit information are in the bottom left corner of your screen, while the bet-adjuster and the spin functions are in the right.
Specs & Gameplay
Pragmatic marketed this slot, leaning on its max win of x4,000 on a maximum wager of $100. The lowest bet that the Eye of Cleopatra accepts is $0.2. Given that the top prize of this game is $400,000, it should be clear to you that this is a high variance spinner, where, on average, entry into its Free Spins round happens once every 244 reel rotations. The game uses a 5×4 layout and has twenty paylines. Wins form here when you hit three to five matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost one, on a defined payline.
Different colored A to J royals on papyrus are the low-paying symbols of this slot, producing wins of x0.25 to x1 for five-of-a-kind. A snake, cat, hawk, a pharaoh, and Cleopatra are the high-paying tokens here, yielding rewards of x1.25 to x10 for five instances of each one showing up on the reel grid on the same spin.
The Wild is the word itself, appearing on all the reels, substituting all the pay symbols except the Scatter, which is a gold scarab medallion. Hitting five Wilds on a spin will give you a prize worth x10 your stake, the same as five Cleopatras.
Bonus Features
To the right of the grid layout rests a device with eight light positions and an inner golden circle that has the eye of Ra on it. At random, lights on this contraption will flash, with its Ra symbol representing a Wild. When they do light up, on the next rotation, the device will place Wilds around the ones of the grid in the same pattern as its flashing lights. Winning combos get calculated and paid out of once this replacement happens. The minimum amount of flashing blue lights is four, and only combinations of four, six, and eight are possible.
Landing three to fight Scatters anywhere in view triggers the Free Spins mode. During it, lights for sure will flash on every spin. Before this round starts, you will get provided with four possible options that mix different numbers of free spins and light patterns. For example, you can trigger four lights and ten free spins for landing three activating Scatters. Or six lights and eight complimentary reel rotations. There are several possible combos, depending on your number of landed Scatters. While this feature lasts, the chosen light pattern remains active in every round. Note that you can retrigger this mode.
Like many other Pragmatic releases, this one also has an ante bet option, where you increase your bet size by 25% to double your odds of gaining entry in the Free Spins round.
GOSU Verdict
Chicken Chase is a classic Pragmatic Play product. Yes, the company does produce thrilling slots now and again. But, for the most part, it likes to stick to uneventful fare such as this. Chicken Chase does not advertise itself as an adrenaline-inducing ride, and it is not. Undoubtedly, this spinner has some charm, but it’s uneventful and somewhat boring if we are honest. Since it is a low variance spinner, we did not expect the win potential of this game to be massive, and at x210, its max prize is reasonably modest. So, pick it if you are on the lookout for a nice-looking, simple slot that can provide some small wins steadily. Otherwise, stay away.
