And we are back with yet another Pragmatic Play review. While our favorite Malta-based company has made the news lately thanks to their expansion in the Bulgarian market and South Africa, we have decided to forego informing you about those occurrences. Instead, we will focus our energy to give you the low-down on their newest game, the farm-themed Chicken Chase. It is what we do best.
This is a low variance release from Pragmatic, a rarity from the company. Per its Chief Business Development Officer, Yossi Barzely, as a title with seemingly unusual specs for Pragmatic, Chicken Chase is a testament to the diversity of the brand’s portfolio. It showed up online on April 3rd and instantly made its way into the top one hundred rankings in multiple markets, as is usually the case with most Pragmatic spinners. But, it is now our job to give it a look-see and render a verdict regarding if this game is a hit or miss.
Theme & Design
The theme of Chicken Chase is, well, farm life. Roosters, chickens, and turkeys living on a picturesque estate somewhere in the country. We tried researching just how many spinners utilize a farm motif, and we came up with a little over two hundred slots. Pigasus & Friends from Slingo Originals was the only game that ranked higher than Chicken Chase in this category at writing. Other notable entries in this genre were Barn Festival from Pragmatic, Big Bad Wolf from Quickspin, Chicken Fox from Lightning Box, and iSoftBet’s Golden Gallina.
As far as painterly slots go, this one charts pretty high on our list of such gaming products, as Pragmatic’s design team has again done a terrific job of creating a game that looks super pleasing to the eye. The colors here are warm, and we found the background image of a farmstead in the mountains very soothing. The music used here is upbeat and has a fun vibe to it. All in all, we cannot knock the presentation here. It fits the theme, and even though it may be a bit static, it radiates a positivity that definitely hit home with us. The sporadic animations initiated by our gameplay also did enough to give a slight sense of dynamism, keeping things from not being overly flat.
The button configuration of Chicken Chase is the transparent panel that Pragmatic has used for the past few years now. You can find the spin controls and the bet-adjuster on the right side of your screen, while the info and settings options are on your left.
Specs & Gameplay
As mentioned, Chicken Chase is a low variance spinner. It boasts a default RTP of 95.48%, which can go as low as 94.55%, and as high as 96.48% at specific operators. The game uses the classic 5×3 grid and only has ten paylines. The betting range of Chicken Chase goes as low as $0.1 and as high as $100, while the max exposure setting of this release is a modest x210, the price you must pay for playing a game where small wins should come at a steady pace. Pragmatic does not list a hit frequency for this title.
There are eight pay symbols in total in this slot. The low-paying ones are a bar icon, a strawberry, broccoli, eggplant, and a yellowy-orange pepper. For five-of-a-kind, these pay wins of x5 to x10. A chicken, turkey, and rooster are the high-paying tokens of this game, yielding rewards of x30 to x80 for five identical symbols from this batch showing up in view on the same spin on adjacent reels.
A big bad blue wolf is the Wild in Chicken Chase. He substitutes all other symbols, except for the golden egg Scatter, and he can pay out wins of up to x200 if five wolves show up on the reel grid on the same reel rotation.
Bonus Features
Chicken Chase offers a spin-and-hold feature. It works by allowing you to have a re-spin when you do not land five matching symbols on your initially staked one. The slot will pay out a win following the re-spin or if five identical tokens hit on the initial reel rotation. Between it and the re-spin, you can pick a reel to hold in place and have the others spin again, or the game will do this randomly. Re-spins are free, and you can deselect any reel this slot chooses to hold in place.
Landing three or more golden egg Scatters triggers the bonus feature of this game, where you pick one of four chickens to win a random multiplier. Depending on how many activating Scatters you land (three to five), the max multiplier in this round can be x50, x100, or x150.
GOSU Verdict
Chicken Chase is a classic Pragmatic Play product. Yes, the company does produce thrilling slots now and again. But, for the most part, it likes to stick to uneventful fare such as this. Chicken Chase does not advertise itself as an adrenaline-inducing ride, and it is not. Undoubtedly, this spinner has some charm, but it’s uneventful and somewhat boring if we are honest. Since it is a low variance spinner, we did not expect the win potential of this game to be massive, and at x210, its max prize is reasonably modest. So, pick it if you are on the lookout for a nice-looking, simple slot that can provide some small wins steadily. Otherwise, stay away.
