Castle of Fire Slot Review
It has been a minute since we reviewed a Pragmatic Play slot. Since then and now, this renowned global gaming brand has teamed up with BetMGM and LeoVegas for a live casino venture. While also expanding its Galaxy Gaming deal and releasing loads of games. One of these was Castle of Fire, which barely made any noise in the first week after debuting in mid-December exclusively. However, it was set for mass distribution on January 11th, 2024.
The last month of 2023 was an interesting time for Pragmatic as the company unleashed a few dated-looking games that are not in line with what they usually produce. However, Castle of Fire is not one of these. It is more of Pragmatic Play’s standard fare, and it shocked us a bit that it did not make more of a substantial despite appearing decent and being a Pragmatic Play creation. Below, we seek to analyze why this was the case.
Theme & Design
The theme in Castle of Fire is a medieval-like stronghold at the peak of a small fiery hill in a fantasy land of some kind. The medieval genre is a pretty popular one in the reel-spinning sector, as we checked and saw that around five hundred games utilizing this motif exist. Pragmatic Play has had a few more Middle Ages-themed products before Castle of Fire. Those are Fire Archer, Hand of Midas, Lady Godiva, The Knight King, and Knight Hot Spotz. It stunned us that we could not track down more knight or castle-related spinners from this supplier. During our quest, we saw that Play’n GO has loads. Examples include Sherwood Gold, HammerFall, Gemix 1 & 2, and its collection of Merlin spinners. Notable ones are – Merlin and the Ice Queen Morgana, and Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake.
On the topic of slots that prominently feature castles, off the top of our heads, we can think of Defenders of Mystica by Yggdrasil and Rabcat’s Castle Builder series.
We already sorta described the setting of Castle of Fire. You can see some flame popping up from a rock edge in the foreground, with a massive castle illuminated by the fire’s orange glow resting in the background. The reels spin in the center of the screen inside a frame with ornamented corners. The game logo and bonus buy option hover left of the 6×3 layout, and below it is the traditional Pragmatic Play button configuration. You have your bet adjuster and spin functions under the lower-right corner of the grid, and in the lower-left of your screen, you have the info, mute, and settings icons.
The graphics are about what you would expect. So, they are stunning painterly illustrations rich in color, which the Pragmatic design team is so famous for in the industry. And the music is like something out of a 1990s big-budgeted fantasy film. It even gives a bit of an eerie dream-like vibe, and to us, it is among the things we most enjoy about this slot, as we found it quite captivating, particularly the acappella choir sounds used.
Specs & Gameplay
What can we tell you about the specs of this 6×3-grid title from Pragmatic? Well, it lists a max win potential of x8,000. Its free spins hit frequency stands at one in one hundred and ninety-six. The general one is one in five, and this product is available in three RTP iterations. You can find it boasting a return-to-player percentage of 93.99%, one of 95.03%, and a version listing an RTP of 96.01%. The number of paylines here can go up to seven hundred and twenty-nine, and the top wager of this high variance slot is $240. The lowest one is $0.20. You have a one in six million chance to land the highest prize that the Castle of Fire slot can deliver.
Winning combos in this game get created when you land three to six matching symbols for a group of low-pay (A-10) different-colored stone royals that can produce wins of x2.5 or x3 for six-of-a-kind combinations. Or from a batch of image premiums that can generate rewards from x3.5 to x8 for six identical tokens from this category materializing in view. The castle scatter supplies entry in the bonus rounds and can bring wins of x2, x15, x100, and x500 when it appears three, four, five, or six times in the 6×3 setup. Wins here get awarded when tokens hit adjacent reels, counted from the leftmost one.
There are no wilds in Castle of Fire.
Bonus Features
Mystery symbols in the Castle of Fire slot can appear on all reels. When they do, they unveil a random paying symbol (but never a scatter). Upon this revelation, they transform into up to three instances of the same paying token, enhancing winning possibilities.
Managing to get three to six castle scatters to stop in view in this spinner will get you twelve on-the-house spins with multipliers whose values will depend on the number of activating scatters, up to x500 for six. During the free spin bonus, mystery tokens get locked, transforming into up to three instances of a regular pay symbol after each spin. You cannot retrigger the free spins mode, but you can buy your way into it for a cost of x100, which ensures you hit enough scatters to activate this round.
GOSU Verdict
Castle of Fire is a simple game that has not been loaded with features. We would call it standard Pragmatic Play fare. Nonetheless, that does not mean that we hate it. The presentation connected with us, and the top reward here is alluring, even though the odds of you getting it are not very favorable. Still, they are not horrible comparable to what some other reel-spinning titles list. Also, we liked the bonus round with sticky mystery symbols. All that said, we will not tell you to put in substantial effort in locating this game. It is Okay, but you can find higher-quality fantasy/medieval gaming products out there.
