Bow of Artemis Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

A few days back, we saw a headline that read – Pragmatic Play aims for success with a new slot. Given that we love archery and have a personal history with this sport, we wondered what new game this prolific Malta-based provider was putting out with an archery theme. It turned out it was one in their Greek Gods series, named Bow of Artemis. Irina Cornides, the company’s COO and chief operating officer, stated in a press release for this title that it hopes to captivate players worldwide through spin modifiers and a multi-level bonus round.

Bow of Artemis debuted online on July 29th, 2024. And in the first week following its release, it was doing Okay in most major markets, ranking in the top one hundred most played games in virtually all notable regions and in the top fifty in some. At first sight, this product seemed different in many ways compared to what Pragmatic usually puts out. So, we said – let’s check it out. We know we go a little heavy on reviewing slots from this supplier, but what can we do when online gamblers like them so much, and everything Pragmatic puts out seems to trend highly?

Theme & Design

Who is Artemis? She is the goddess of the hunt in Ancient Greek mythology, later identified as the personification of the Moon – Selene. She is often depicted in Ancient Greek tales roaming the mountains and forests of Greece, accompanied by her entourage of nymphs. In Ancient Rome’s mythology, Diana is her equivalent, and in Greek myths, Artemis is the daughter of Leto and Zeus and Apollo’s twin sister.

Now, if you are curious to know if other online spinners feature this character as a central focus – the answer is yes. Two we can think of are Artemis vs Medusa by Quickspin, which came out in mid-2020 as a cartoony reel-spinning romp, and KA Gaming’s Apollo And Artemis slot from 2022. We are sure that Artemis gets included as a pay symbol in many other interactive gaming titles, but these are the ones where she is a major focus point and where the gambling fun revolves around her.

Bow of Artemis is a much better-looking game than the two mentioned above by a country mile. Naturally, you would expect that from Pragmatic Play, as this provider rarely fails to deliver in this department. You can see the stunning Artemis right off the reel grid standing with her golden bow, and the symbol layout next to her takes up much of the screen real estate in this slot, domaining its presentation due to its size. Yellow and orange are the primary background colors in this game, with a fanatical light soundtrack and some Okay sound effects that we do not hate. The presentation here is not overly dynamic on account of the gameplay type chosen, so we cannot overly praise the visuals nor the audio side of things in Bow of Artemis, as while decent to look at, the presentation in this slot is not very captivating or interactive.

You get the usual Pragmatic Play button interface in Bow of Artemis, where the spin and bet functions sit on the right side of the semi-transparent section at the bottom of your screen, and the credit and bet info, along with the settings and mute icons lay on its left side.

Specs & Gameplay

Bow of Artemis is a cluster-pay title where the symbols land on an 8×8 layout that can deliver prizes up to x10,000. Such a reward is attainable, in theory, once every nine million spins in this product that has a hit frequency of 23.4, a bonus round entry supplied once every two hundred and thirteen spins, on average, high variance, and the standard Pragmatic wagering range of $0.20 to $240. Bow of Artemis comes in three RTP versions. Thus, you can find this slot boasting a return-to-player setting of either 94.05%, 95.02%, or 96.05%. The last one is the most common.

In terms of pay symbols, you have A, K, Q, and J royal paying out x40 to x150 for clusters over twenty-five, and three different-colored animal tokens that produce wins of x300 to x1,000 for the same number of matching symbols, twenty-five or more, showing up on the game grid in Bow of Artemis. You must connect at least five horizontally or vertically for this slot to pay out any prize. Its wild is the letter W, only appearing in the Lucky Wilds and Wild Pack features.

Note that this is a cascading spinner, so winning combos get paid out, and the symbols that comprised them explode. That leaves grid space for new ones to take their place with the original stake active. Sequences continue until no new win combination gets formed.

Bonus Features

In the base gameplay, colored marks appear behind pay symbols, and when a win occurs on a marked position – a specific modifier comes into play. Brown ones are active in the Chase Begins mode, clearing the screen of symbols and introducing new ones. Teal corresponds to the Wild Pack, which transforms a random symbol into wilds. Purple is for the Big Game Hunter feature that adds random 2×2 blocks of the same symbol. The red mark triggers the Colossal Game, introducing 3×3 to 5×5 same symbol blocks. Blue brings to life the Lucky Wilds mode, adding up to 15 wilds in random positions, and Green adds up to thirty instances of a symbol randomly.

Winning symbols in Bow of Artemis get collected in The Hunt meter that triggers The Hunt feature. The meter resets to zero when no more winning symbols explode from a cascade or tumble, whatever you wish to call it. The Hunt triggers at Level 1 with 105 symbols, Level 2 with 140 symbols, Level 3 with 140 symbols, Level 4 with 152 symbols, and Level 5 with 152 symbols. Each level starts with multipliers that apply to all wins. x2, x3, or x5, depending on how many symbols have gotten collected. All spin modifiers are guaranteed to play once per level. The Hunt feature can get purchased for x100.

GOSU Verdict

Bow of Artemis is not that different from other highly popular cluster pay spinners. It is not the most engaging option in this category, but it is good enough. If its presentation had been more dynamic, we would have rated it higher. As is, we would call it very playable but lacking in style and some extra oomph. It just does not have that special something to take it to the next level.
