Tales of Asgard Loki’s Fortune Slot Review
Play’n Go is one of the hottest game providers out there. Yet, we feel that we have not given them the attention they deserve. This notable Swedish developer is now close to releasing its three hundred landmark slot. Therefore, we feel like this is the perfect time to shine a light on one of their newer products, Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune. It is a Norse mythology-inspired slot that entered casino lobbies in late October. However, after a brief, few-day run in the top one hundred rankings, it quickly fell out of favor with spinners and is currently on its way to exiting the top one thousand chart if the past week’s patterns continue. That said, overall reviews for this game have been decent, so we got curious to see if Loki’s Fortune’s fall from grace has something to do with the slot itself or are other factors in play.
Theme & Design
Loki is a god from Norse mythology whose relationship to the other gods varies depending on the source. He is a shape-shifter, who according to scripture, assisted some deities while behaving maliciously towards them. Naturally, in pop culture, he is best known as the brother of Thor in the Marvel comics and the associated cinematic universe. However, in the actual mythology, these two were not related. That said, this slot makes no bones about ripping off the visual feel of the Marvel movies, borrowing heavily from them regarding its set and costume design. Twenty reel-spinners feature Loki as a title character if you can believe that, and most of them emulate the look established by the Marvel Thor franchise.
The visuals here are decent, as you would expect from Play’n Go. No one ever said that their modern products look bad. The background here is a Hall of Asgard-like room, with Loki sitting on a throne, holding onto a sorcerer’s staff with a green gem on top of it. He displays subtle movements when sitting and rises from his throne during specific portions of the gameplay (the Free Spins). We liked the animations in this spinner. They are not in your face but are rich enough so that the game does not feel static.
The button’s panel is at the bottom of the screen with the spin and auto-spin functions on its left side and the info icon on the right. You can adjust your bet size by using a slider in the middle of this panel. There is a black bar at the bottom of the screen that displays your balance/wager. You can also mute the game there and access its help page.
Specs & Gameplay
Loki’s Fortune is a five-reel, five-row, high variance slot that accepts penny wagers and up to one hundred dollar ones. Its default RTP is a disappointing 94.2%, but you can find this title at some operators boasting an RTP of 96.2%. Be careful, as its adjustable RTP percentage can go as low as 84% at unlicensed or shady casinos. The max win cap of Loki’s Fortune is x20,000 your bet, and the odds of you landing such a win are one in one hundred million. The number of available payways here is 3,125 by default, but this figure can jump to 100,000 thanks to the split mystery symbols, which we will discuss later.
The low-paying symbols of this game are glowing runic blocks that pay x0.3 for five-of-a-kind. The mid-paying ones are different animal medallions. These feature ravens, wolves, a horse, and a snake, paying x0.6 for five-of-a-kind. Thor and Odin are the high-paying tokens here, and landing them on the reel grid five times on the same spin will yield a reward of x1 and x2, respectively.
Loki is this slot’s Wild, substituting all other symbols except the Scatter and revealing Mystery tokens. Hitting five Wilds on a spin produces a win of x2. The emerald on Loki’s staff is the Scatter here, and Mystery symbols are engraved stone blocks.
Bonus Features
Mystery symbols are nothing more than inactive tiles when they land, but Wilds convert them into pay tokens. Split mystery ones reveal two symbols instead of one. If you get a full screen packed with mystery blocks, they will reveal themselves without an activating Wild.
Loki’s Mischief can activate, at random, in the base game and award three modifiers. The first is random Wilds, with Loki duplicating himself up to three times on the reel grid. The second is random Scatters (two at the most), and the third is Loki throwing daggers onto the grid and dividing Mystery symbols in two.
Hitting three or more Scatters (emeralds) gains you access to the Free Spins round. The number of complimentary reel rotations you will get in this mode depends on how many Scatters activated this feature. Three get you eight, four, twelve, and five emeralds, earn you twenty free spins. Remember that Mystery symbols and Wilds are more likely to appear in this round than in the base game.
GOSU Verdict
Decent. That is all that we can say about Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune. If we are 100% frank, this release feels a bit like a filler game. It looks nice enough and plays well, but we doubt it will wow anyone or become any player’s favorite. Plus, its max win potential boasts lottery-like odds. So, we did not care for that. Still, this is not a horrible slot by any stretch of the imagination. We rate it as slightly above average and worthy of a look.
