Rich Wilde and the Wandering City Slot Review
Play’n Go has been on a rampage recently, releasing games that are captivating players and dominating interactive gaming lobbies across the globe. Anyone following this sphere for a minute, spinning reels regularly, likely knows all about one of its poster boys, Rich Wilde. Well, the 2019 Best Casino Supplier, according to the Malta iGaming Excellence Awards, has brought back this iconic character onto gaming screens in the Wandering City, his latest adventure.
Released in mid-November, the Wandering city quickly shot up into the top ten rankings, as everyone expected. However, it has now begun a slow descent, dropping a position each day. Let us inspect this game and see if gamblers are sick of Rich, or has Play’n Go failed them by producing a subpar sequel?
Theme & Design
For the few visitors of our site not familiar with one of the most famous online slots ever, Book of Dead, Rich Wilde is that game’s hero. He is an Indiana Jones rip-off, except he is younger than the character played by Harrison Ford and arguably a bit more handsome. Rich has been the central focus of several Play’n Go games, including the Pearls of India, the Tome of Madness, and the Shield of Athena. He has become so popular that Play’n Go attempted to expand his brand by introducing a potential spin-off series. It featured Cat Wilde, this famed explorer’s daughter.
For this reel-spinning journey, our intrepid explorer has ventured off into what appears to be the Artic. However, upon Googling the Wandering City, we discovered that the setting of this game is the mythical City of Caesars, believed to have existed somewhere in or around Chile. History books describe it as prosperous and filled with riches. All the snow featured in this game got us a little confused about its setting being South America. Yet Google again quickly taught us that snowfalls in the highlands of countries such as Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile are not uncommon.
Rich Wilde and the Wandering City begins with a cool graphic novel-like animation. The graphics here are painterly, and the reels spin inside a stone structure held together by two giant statues on a mountain peak. Behind it is a temple. The sound effects of this slot have a very game show vibe, while the music boasts a tribal feel.
In terms of presentation, this slot is par for the course for the Rich Wilde franchise. It also features the same game interface as all the other Book Of spinners. That means that the spin and auto-spin buttons are on the right side of the buttons panel. The bet adjuster is in the middle of this section, and the info icon is on its left side. You can mute the Wandering City through the black options bar at the bottom of the screen, where you can also pop open the settings page.
Specs & Gameplay
The Wandering City is a high variance spinner with a five-reel, three-row layout. It boasts 243 ways to win, where prize combos form when matching symbols land on adjacent reels, left to right. They do not have to touch. Bet sizes here range from ten pennies to one hundred bucks, and the most you stand to win is a prize worth x10,000 your stake. Keep in mind that the chances of you hitting such a win are one in one billion. Like most products these days, this one also has an adjustable RTP that can go as high as 96.2% at some operators and drop to 84.2% at others. Its most common value is 94.2%.
The low-paying tokens here are A-9 royals. Hitting five identical royals on a spin yields a reward between x0.8 to x1. The Wandering City’s premium symbols are a dagger, a statue, a skull, Rich Wilde, and a diamond. These provide wins in the x2.5 to x4 range for five-of-a-kind.
The high-paying diamond is also the Wild and Scatter here. It substitutes all other symbols, and three diamonds appearing on the same reel rotation will supply you access to the Free Spins bonus round.
Bonus Features
On any bonus/base spin, an x2 cumulative multiplier can show up in a scroll above the three middle reels. Single reel multipliers get applied to only win combos where one of the symbols is in on the actuated reel. Wins going through it get multiplied by two. Yet, if two or three x2 reel multipliers light up, their values get added together and multiply your payout.
If you are so lucky to land three Wilds on the reel grid on the same reel rotation, this slot will grant you entry to its bonus round. There you will kick off your adventure with ten free spins. Before the fun starts, an expanding symbol randomly gets chosen. It could be a high or low-paying one. When it is a part of a winning combo, it will stretch to cover its entire reel, supplying you with more profitable wins. Once expanded, these expanding tokens do not need to be adjacent to form winning combinations.
You can keep reactivating the Free Spins bonus round of the Wandering City slot if you land three more Scatters while inside it.
GOSU Verdict
We try to keep things 100% on BTCGOSU. While no one can argue the significance of the Book of Dead franchise, we do not care a ton for these games. They are very repetitive and seem more like reskins than sequels. Nevertheless, Book slots have their fans who enjoy their rudimentary gameplay and adventure themes. So, if you fall into that category, you may love Rich Wilde and the Wandering City. We did not. To us, this is the same ole, same ole, with fresh visuals.
