Mafia Gold Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

On July 5th, we published an article on the best mafia-themed slots that we advise you to try if you are in the mythos of Italian organized crime. If Red Tiger had released this game before we posted that guide, we would have for sure included it in that list. We were super curious about this spinner when we heard of it, and we got an early demo version to enjoy. It is a Play’n GO creation that gets announced to appear in online casino lobbies on August 1st, 2024.

It has gotten scheduled for distribution after a new entry in this provider’s Olympus series – Rise of Olympus Origins, and before Play’n GO’s Scourge of Rome. We are sure that this title will do pretty well for this Swedish game supplier, as there are loads of online gambling mafia fans out there, and the quality of the available options, in all honesty, does not live up to the demand present. At first sight, this looked to us like maybe the best old-school-style mafia spinner out there, but we will give you the full skinny on it below.

Theme & Design

As noted in our mafia slot article, many reel spinners that carry this tag/label are usually just crime ones. From the batch we rattled off, Whacked by Nolimit City is, without question, the top online gambling option. As far as engagement level and features go. However, that product has more of a newer mafia setting. It appears that its storyline transpires in the 1990s or maybe the 1980s. It is not the Godfather-type fare that Mafia Gold aims to capture. Speaking of the Godfather, there are three Internet spinners based on this legendary Francis Ford Coppola movie. There is one from Atlantic Digital and two from Gamesys. The second is called Capos and Foes. All three are branded games and Okay picks for fans of the film series, especially the original film.

Mafia Gold reminded us a bit of the 2002 Mafia game by Illusion Softworks. Older gamers will remember the hype behind this title before it showed up on store shelves. It lived up to it, implementing GTA III-like gameplay and a Godfather-type storyline. It makes no bones about that. Mafia Gold does the same, and it appears to have gotten set in 1920, as you get some piano-roaring- 1902s music in this Play’n GO title, whose base action happens in front of a Chicago or New York building, with gun-carrying criminals standing before it. The game is heavy on the colors green and gold. We guess those are apt for a crime-based product. The character designs here are interesting. And they are similar to some that Play’n GO has used in the past. We like the drive-by and gunfire animations in Mafia Gold and other tidbits that make the presentation here a notch more dynamic than expected.

As far as the button setup goes, Play’n GO has stuck to its standard scheme of incorporating its default betting interface to match the visual theme of each game. That means you get a brown and green one, with the bet options on the right and the bet selection options in the middle, sandwiched between your bet and balance info.

We will conclude this section of our Mafia Gold review by telling you we enjoyed this game’s presentation. But because our session was super uneventful, fewer things happened on the reel grid than we anticipated. So, that bummed us out.

Specs & Gameplay

Mafia Gold has six reels and four rows. There are five main columns and an extra one, but we will get into that below. The variance of Mafia Gold is high, and there are thirty paylines here. This slot comes in five RTP versions. These are 84.2%, 87.2%, 91.2%, 94.2%, and 96,2%. The latter is the most common, and the max exposure is x6,000, with bets moving from $50 on the top end and $0.10 on the lowest.

To get a prize in Mafia Gold, you must see three to five matching symbols land on the thirty paylines in this spinner. The pay tokens here get organized into two groups. The first is six low-pay royals that generate wins of x2, x3, or x4 for five-of-a-kind combinations, and then you have the four mob characters that produce wins of x5, x6, or x8 for the same number (five) of identical symbols from this group appearing on a payline on the same spin. Lastly, there are the two godfathers (special Mafia Gold symbols), red and gold, yielding wins up to x10 for five stopping in view in the same gaming round.

A revolver is a wild in Mafia Gold, and a red rose is a scatter.

Bonus Features

We touched upon the extra reel above. It grants multipliers, and in the bonus round, it supplies ammo to take out enemies or snag cash prizes. We also mentioned the Drive-By feature, active in the base gameplay, where a car drives past the game layout, and a mob member throws a Molotov cocktail at the grid, adding up to eleven wilds on it. The extra reel can display multipliers up to x10, and when a Mafia Gold symbol lines up with such a value, the line wins will get multiplied by the corresponding figure.

There is also a mystery instant win in this slot, where you can snag a reward of up to x20 during the bonus round tease. On the topic of free spins, you can activate this mode with three to five landed scatters that award ten, fifteen, or twenty free spins. In this round, values up to x10 pop in on the feature reel. When they do, they go into a safe. The total gets paid out at the end of the mode. Bullets also appear in this reel. To take out a gang member, you need ten bullets. And when one gets eliminated, he gets replaced with a high-pay symbol. Taking out all the members should get you five more on-the-house spins, and the Cash Hit feature, where aligning Mafia Gold symbols with safes awards their accumulated values.

GOSU Verdict

This is more than a respectable game from Play’n GO, and this famed provider has added more features to it than they do in most of their standard releases. It is not something that engrossed us as we played, primarily because we rarely could hit a winning spin here. But, from what we saw, we think this is for sure among the better mafia-themed spinners. We would not say that it beats Nolimit’s Whacked, but it is probably a better game than most others we listed in our recent mafia slot article.
