Divine Divas Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

It has been over a month and a half since we reviewed a Play’n GO slot, Oasis of Dead, another addition to this studio’s Book Of catalog. A few days ago, we saw a press release for this game, where Play’n GO’s team invited us, and all of you, to step into a fairytale setting that uses Greek mythology as its foundation. Play’n GO’s Games Ambassador Magnus Wallentin stated in the company’s press release that they wanted to build a game that celebrates the wisdom and strength of Greek goddesses and that Play’n GO’s team believes they have accomplished that here.

Divine Divas got an exclusive launch on September 9th, 2024, but got its global distribution ten days later. In the first week following its worldwide debut, this title is doing excellently, notching a top ten spot in Finland, Sweden, South Korea, The Netherlands, and Turkey, while also ranking in the top one hundred most-played standings in various other markets. Time will tell if Divine Divas can maintain the high level of interest it generated upon getting set loose into the online gambling sphere. But here, we are to talk about its features and how good this Play’n GO spinner is. So, let us get down to doing that.

Theme & Design

As noted in the intro, the basis of the visuals in this game is Ancient Greece-inspired characters and graphics. We would say that this slot heavily leans on the Hercules cartoon from 1997, which was an animated musical fantasy comedy that did well for Disney but was not as massive of a success as many had hoped. Divine Divas uses a similar, if not the same, font as some stages of the action video game for PC based on that movie.

The central figures of Divine Divas are, of course, its goddess characters. We tried to consider whether we had played any other spinners with a motif similar to this one. Aside from our recently reviewed Angel vs Sinner, the only product that popped to mind was Wizard Games’ Dreamy Divas, which came to us because it has a super similar name to this one. Also, we would assume the 2017 Red Rake slot Eastern Goddesses could get named as something similar, but that one has more of a general Ancient China vibe.

The illustrations are stylish enough to give this game a decent sense of identity despite the mentioned resemblance to various elements of the cited Disney cartoon. The female character designs here are somewhat unique, and the reel-spinning action occurs on a floating temple up in the clouds, with what we assume is Mount Olympus in the background.

Divine Divas has an interesting soundtrack that we cannot really define, but it is string-heavy and something different, which we always appreciate. You get pretty standard Play’n GO-style animations and this provider’s usually interface molded to fit the colors and theme of this game. There are some character sound effects and the usual coin-win ones.

The presentation of this slot is more than competent, but it is nothing novel and does not feel special in any way. It is still good, though.

Specs & Gameplay

Divine Divas has a 5×5 symbol layout and implements the scatter-pay mechanic for win-formation. It is a game that can be found in five RTP versions. These are 84.25%, 87.25%, 91.25%, 94.25%, and 96.25%. We are unsure where you can stumble upon the first RTP iteration of Divine Divas, as that is relatively low. For example, the Malta Gaming Authority does not allow online slots to have RTPs under 85%.

The max win of this title stands at x5,000, and you can make wagers as low as $0.10 here and ones as high as $100. The odds of you hitting the top prize in this high-variance Play’n GO reel-spinning gaming product are one in one billion. So, don’t get your hopes up.

To win a Divine Divas prize, you must land six or more matching tokens anywhere on the game grid. Given that this is a cascading slot, winning symbols disappear after paying out, and new ones drop to their empty spots, which keeps happening until no new wins form. The low-pay tokens here are card suits that generate rewards from x10 to x20 for fourteen or more matches. The high-pay ones are Atena, Hera, and Aphrodite, offering wins of x100x for fourteen or more identical goddesses landing on the same spin.

Bonus Features

You do not have traditional wilds in this slot. What you get are tri-symbols that function as wilds for the high-paying tokens. When they participate in a winning combination, they assume the color of the symbol they replace. This is part of a quest gimmick, where a quest gets completed when the tri-symbol has been used by all three high-pay tokens, which rewards you multipliers up to x5.

There are also mystery symbols in Divine Divas. These can show up on any spin but only on the initial one. That means they will not appear during cascades. When triggered, a minimum of five of these will hit, and in the base game, they reveal a high-pay token or tri-symbols. Each mystery can reveal a different symbol.

Hitting three scatters or more gets you entry in the free-spin round, where you have a Pick Bonus, offering you the three goddesses, each with their unique take on this mode. During the free spins, mystery symbols reveal tri-symbols or golden high-paying ones with x2, x3, or x5 multipliers, which depend on the chosen Goddess. Tri-symbols in this mode also award x1 to x5 your bet and an extra spin, with this round boasting a seventy-five on-the-house spin cap.

Back to the mode selection. Athena awards sixteen free spins, with the possibility of high-paying symbols from mystery ones to transform into golden versions with values of x2, x3, or x5. Hera gives four fewer spins and twelve, where revealed high-pay tokens from mystery symbols turn into golden versions with a guaranteed x5 multiplier. Lastly, Aphrodite offers six spins, with mystery symbols guaranteed on every spin, whereas the golden versions can also have multipliers of x2, x3, or x5.

GOSU Verdict

Divine Divas was slightly better than anticipated. Wins, for us, came at a decent clip in our session. We appreciated the mode selection, and the implementation of multipliers. While pretty standard for the most part, as far as scatter-pay slots go, this one is Okay. We doubt it will become a genre staple, but it will have its day in the sun in the next few months, we are sure.
