Canine Carnage Slot Review
We seem to be on a roll with reviewing Play’n GO releases. Seeing as they have generated some decent traffic for us, we thought it is best to keep this gravy train going and look at the latest Play’n GO slot, Canine Carnage. It debuted without much fanfare at gambling sites on November 3rd, quickly entering the top ten rankings in multiple markets. For example, at the time of writing, this colorfully futuristic reel-spinning pick sat in the standings that identify the ten most-played spinners in Canada and Australia. That information, paired with its post-apocalyptic theme boasting Mad Max-inspired canine characters, was reason enough for us to examine it. It charmed us at first sight, and we think it may have the same effect on most BTCGOSU readers.
Theme & Design
We mentioned Mad Max in the intro. It is undoubtedly the inspiration for this slot, as the storyline here revolves around Mutt and his band of furry friends racing across a barren wasteland en route to a safe haven, Canine Canyon, a place home to boundless treasures. That sounds a lot like Mad Max Fury Road. Doesn’t it? Though, some of the outfits in this game reminded us of Road Warrior, the second installment in the Mel Gibson series. We have to admit. 1980s Italian post-apocalyptic movies are one of our guilty pleasures, with films like 1990: The Bronx Warriors and 2020 Texas Gladiators having a distinct piece of real estate in our hearts.
While most desert-themed products select to utilize orange as their base color, Canine Carnage goes all out in the hue department, implementing a varied palette of primary and secondary colors plastered over the dogs’ big rig and the game grid. Their saturation level is just right, giving the game richness while not straining the eye. The graphics here are painterly, with various elements featuring subtle animations during the base gameplay, not allowing anything on screen to feel too static. Naturally, the animation volume increases in the bonus modes and after winning combos.
We got a Money Train and Cash Truck vibe from this game, and we assume that fans of those two titles were the crowd Play’n GO was targeting with this release, which has a techno-like soundtrack.
Overall, there is a lot to like about this slot’s presentation. It has the standard Play’n GO betting interface, adapted to Canine Carnage’s look, as is the case with all titles from this provider. You can choose your bet size in the middle of this configuration, and the spin functions that lead to tail-wagging wins are on the right of this panel.
Specs & Gameplay
Play’n GO set the variance here at medium, coupling it with an RTP of 94.2%. As is the case with most games nowadays from this company and others, concerning the latter spec, operators can choose to adjust it via a sliding scale that goes from 84.2% on the low end to 96.2% on the high one. Yet, the default return-to-player percentage of this 5×3 slot with up to 248,832 paylines seems to be 94.2% at most crypto gaming sites. The betting range here moves from $0.1 to $100, and Canine Carnage has an Okay max win potential of x3,000. We should not complain too much about it since the variance is medium.
This game has the industry standard A-10 card royals as its low-paying symbols, with these paying wins of x0.4 for five-of-a-kind combos. The high-pay tokens of this spinner are the four dog characters, plus the skull saw wild. Landing five identical symbols from this batch on the same reel rotation will produce prizes of x1.2 to x5. Note that you must hit at least three matching images on adjacent reels, left to right, on a payline to win a reward in Canine Carnage, and only the highest win combination gets paid out.
Jerrycans act as scatters in this Play’n GO game. Bones are instant prize symbols, and a chomping bulldog is a token that collects them. Multipliers and splinter symbols are also in play, as explained below.
Bonus Features
The mentioned bone tokens can pop in on any spin, carrying distinct values. They award instant prizes if the punk bulldog appears alongside them. The maximum single instant prize they can produce is x5 your stake. X2, x3, and x5 multipliers can also land on the grid, and if they are in view on a winning reel rotation, they will multiply that win. If multiple ones materialize together, their values get added up before getting applied.
We must mention that saw skull wilds split pay symbols on the same row into two, the ones appearing to their right. Though, they cannot cut multipliers, collector bulldogs, or scatters.
Finally, if three flaming jerrycan scatters stop on the grid, that activates six Bone Spins. What are those? Well, this is a bonus round where no regular symbols land, only bone ones, with their values instantly awarded. They also get collected in a Cash Pot, and when the collector bulldog makes an appearance on the 5×3 layout in this mode, he gathers everything in the pot, giving it away to you. Multipliers can also get added to the reels in the Bone Spins, but they will only get applied to the Cash Pot. Saw wilds, when in view, split bones in two, doubling their value in this round.
GOSU Verdict
We are sure that many of our readers will say we are giving this game too much credit. That it borrows too heavily from Nolimit City slots while also taking style points from ELK Studio’s Nitropolis franchise. But we thoroughly enjoyed it, with our biggest disappointment connected to this release being its somewhat modest max exposure of x3,000. Even though, as discussed, that did not catch us by surprise. Yes, some of you will call this a copycat game, but to us, it is a dynamic one that kept us playing, and that is one of the main criteria we judge slots by now. Originality is further down our criteria list.
