Baron Lord of Saturday Slot Review
It has been a minute since we reviewed a Play’n GO slot. From our last scan, this provider made some impressive moves, particularly in the US market, where it teamed up with Hard Rock Digital to operate in New Jersey. It has also expanded in Finland and partnered with Betway for its first South African foray. According to Ebba Arnred, Chief marketing officer of Play’n GO, this company is going big with its North American branch out. It is currently live in five US states. Plus, in Quebec and Ontario in Canada. So, it focuses on growing as much as possible and as quickly as possible on this continent.
As far as games go, Play’n GO is doing as strong as ever, releasing up to four per month. For October 2024, this game developer set loose – Stepping Diamonds, Beasts of Fire Maximum, Baron Lord Saturday, and Wildest Gambit. Here, we will cover Baron Lord Saturday, as that pick looked like the most fun one from this group. It appeared online on the 17th of October 2024 and is doing reasonably well in most developed markets. Nothing spectacular, but it is trending in the top five hundred most-played games in many territories, and George Olekszy, Head of Game Retention at Play’n GO, claims this game has the power to send you into an immersive journey in the world of Voodoo magic. That is what we are looking to judge with the following review.
Theme & Design
Now, we are sure that many of you are wondering if Baron Lord, the main character of this game, has any historical significance whatsoever or if he is a random character made up by Play’n GO’s team. If you are familiar with Voodoo slots, you will likely recognize his design from other games with similar title characters. That is so because all of these are based on the same prominent figure in Haitian Vodou – Baron Samedi. It is vital to note that this is not an actual person, but a spirit, or Loa, an entity that is a synthesis of African religious beliefs and Catholicism. There is a Baron Samedi slot by Yggdrasil and many others that use his likeness, which chiefly consists of face paint, a top hat, and a black coat.
Voodoo magic is a highly exploited theme in the slotverse, with around seventy games utilizing it. We did a dedicated article covering some of the best ones which you can check out in our guides section. Right now, this one is the most popular, with Voodoo Gold by Elk Studios, and the mentioned Baron Samedi from Yggdrasil doing well as well.
As far as the presentation of Baron Lord of Saturday goes, we like it. It has a cartoony visual structure with heavy outlines. It looks like something out of a children’s cartoon. You also get some light music that adds a decent sense of mood. It is not creepy, and nor are the graphics here, which depict a scary setting, a graveyard, but the tone of this game is such that nothing is scary here. Your gaming fun gets complemented by various sound bites, which we found a tad annoying after a while. You get symbol animations that are pretty good, and when you start piling on wins, the music picks up, giving a further Cartoon Network show tone to the gambling entertainment in this spinner, which implements the standard Play’n GO button setup modified to fit the presentation of Baron Lord of Saturday.
Specs & Gameplay
You get a 5×4 grid in this spinner, which has twenty paylines and comes in five RTP iterations. The most standardized return-to-player setting of Baron Lord of Saturday is 96.2%, and the lowest one is 84.2%, which we doubt you will find at any of our reviewed sites. The variance of this title should be high everywhere, and the hit frequency should stand at one in every third spin. The wager sizes in this Play’n GO creation start at $0.05 pre-spin, which is interesting, and they go up to $100, while the top win is x3,500, which is nothing staggering but should be acceptable for most.
You take home prizes in this slot by lining up three to five identical pay symbols on adjacent reels left to right, with only the highest combo paying out. The low-pay images here are four glass jars, producing wins of either x1.6 or x2 for five-of-a-kind combinations. Their higher-pay counterparts are three items and two characters that generate prizes from x3 to x8 for five matching tokens from this batch hitting on a spin.
A skull is the wild in Baron Lord of Saturday, and skull hands are the bonus symbol.
Bonus Features
The heart of this spinner is its free spin bonus, which you enter through two landed scatters. That activates eight spins, starting with wilds at x2 multipliers. Scatters collected during this mode award additional spins and increase the wild multiplier to a value of x10. You can snag up to nine extra on-the-house gaming rounds.
Wilds here appear on the three central reels, and random ones can trigger on any spin, adding three to six substitution tokens. The middle three reels may randomly activate a Wild Reel effect, expanding any wilds on a reel and filling it in its entirety. In the base game, you can have one wild reel, but in the free spins, up to three can be wild.
GOSU Verdict
What did we think of Baron Lord of Saturday? Not much to be 100% frank. It is Okay, and this slot has some charm and flare but does not do anything out of the box. We appreciated the light touch it takes on the theme, and we enjoyed looking at the visuals. The bonus features are decent but not super engaging or overly unique. All in all, we would call this a middle-of-the-road title from Play’n GO. It is worth a session or two, but we do not see it having much-staying power.
