Theme & Design

Where was this game when we were writing our Unleash the Darkness: Discover Hauntingly Demonic Slots guide, which we published on July 30th? It was around when we were putting together that piece of content, but somehow, we missed it and did not factor it in during our selection process. If we wrote that article today, it would likely make the cut. So, the theme here is the occult. You see demonic symbols paired with a moody atmosphere built on horror-movie-like visuals and sound effects. There is a light soundtrack here of sorts, but it plays second fiddle to the weird noises and whispers heard throughout the base gameplay.

The slot we can most compare this one to is Darkness by Print Studios, another eerie, skin-tingling, reel-spinning romp that is worth checking out if you are into that sort of gaming fun.

The gambling action here occurs in what looks like a cathedral, which we also assume acts as a tomb. Violet and blue are the dominant presentation colors in 5 Rings of Darkness, and they do an excellent job of helping build a moody vibe. You get some lightning and coin win animations here that we can do without, and we like that there is an echo in the game. We also appreciate the zoom and blurry effect that activates via the pentagram-like layout below the symbol setup. It is an exciting effect.

It was okay, and we are sure that it will have its fans, but we liked Darkness by Print Studios way more, and aside from the multiplier element coupled with the scatter-pay system and cascades, we did not think this game had loads to offer. Its presentation was also pleasing enough, but nothing exceptional. Accordingly, if the theme here is something you find appealing, test this slot out; otherwise, you can play more engaging spinners with similar mechanics and motifs.
