Established in 2013 in Stockholm, Nolimit City is one of our favorite slot providers. Though they do not boast a game library comparable to some of the top dogs in the sphere and have yet to reach the fifty online slot mark, they are a real case of quality trumping quantity. We previously have featured some of their most popular titles, and now it is time to review one that’s underrated. Theme & Design

The theme of Barbarian Fury is, well, barbarians. Note that this slot makes no bones about drawing inspiration from Santa Monica Studio’s console game series God of War. Some of the settings, character design, and weapons are similar to what exists in the God of War franchise, particularly its last entry. No Limit is also trying to cash in on the Viking trend that’s going on in the slot-verse, where, as of late, ax-wielding maniacs have struck a chord with players, and this sub-genre appears like it is here to stay.

The backdrop of Barbarian Fury is a Nordic forest in the dead of winter. A thick snow carpet covers the land and trees, as more flakes fall from the sky, and fog clouds visibility. An impressive pagan structure featuring dead vines and human skulls frames the reel-grid, as iron chains embedded into two boulders hold it in place. Once you enter the bonus round, everything turns blood red, a fire lights up in front of the grid, and embers fly toward it. The ominous soundtrack creates a gloomy atmosphere and is reminiscent of old PC strategy games.

The spin buttons are on the right side of your screen, with your account balance information under them. On the left are your mute, settings, and bet-adjuster buttons, and below them is your wager info.

Specs & Gameplay

Barbarian Fury is a five-reel, three-row slot with twenty-four paylines. The default RTP here is 96.06%, and the variance is high. Some operators may offer a version of the game where the RTR drops to 94.11%, so always check before spinning. The bet sizes range from $0.25 to $125, and the max win potential is x8,785 your stake. It incorporates many of the same gameplay mechanics that other popular No Limit City releases do, such as x Nudge Wilds.

The low-paying symbols are your classic 9 to A royals imprinted on wooden shields that look like they’ve been through a battle or two. Land five matching shields and win a prize that’s either x2 or x3 your bet. Three scary-looking warriors, each of which is carrying a bird of prey, are four-stack symbols. If you land five on a line, you’ll win a prize that ranges between x4 and x10 your bet. The Chief warrior pays out the most, while the younger male one pays the least. Land five female warriors on a line and earn a prize that’s x6 your bet.

A roaring bear is the xNudge Wild, only appearing on the second, third, and fifth reel. A wolf is this game’s Scatter.

Bonus Features

First implemented in Tombstone, the xNudge Roaring Wild feature is in play here. The roaring bear Wild can appear on the second, third, and fourth reels. It is a four-stacked symbol that nudges down to come into full view. It possesses a multiplier that starts at x1 and grows with each nudge, up to x4. You can have multiple xNudge Roaring Wilds on the reel-grid per spin, and each multiplier gets added together, up to x12. Then, it will get applied to your line win.

You activate the Barbarian Respins mode whenever you land three identical warrior symbols on the reels, in partial or full view. These symbols will nudge into full view and lock in place, allowing you to land more warriors on the upcoming free spin.

Hitting three or more Scatters will gain you entry in the Free Spins round. When this happens, they begin to drop, one position at a time, until they disappear from the reel grid. Each drop is worth one free spin. For instance, if you land three wolfs, and each has to drop four positions to disappear from the reel grid, you get twelve complementary reel rotations. The Barbarian Respins feature and the xNudge Roaring Wild are active in this round. If you are impatient or unlucky, you can buy entry to this bonus round, which will cost you x70 your base bet. Note that the Bonus Buy option doesn’t guarantee where the wolf Scatters will land, so you cannot know how many free spins you’ll have once you enter this mode.
