Twister Slot Review
Twister is a NetEnt title that came out before this company’s Rabid Randy slot, which we reviewed. It popped up online on the first of October, and we did not see any fanfare about it. We cannot even remember stumbling upon a press release for this game, and we could not find one for the purposes of our scan of it. We like to read those things to see what providers are saying about their creations despite how marketing-oriented these texts are.
Twister has been out for a month now, and looking at the stats, this reel spinner is not doing tremendously well anywhere. It is not trending in any noteable market. It appears to have done somewhat decently in the first two weeks after its release but has lost the player base it had for the first fourteen days following its global distribution. We have not had overly positive things to say about recent NetEnt creations, and we were not super hopeful that this slot would change that. Still, we gave it the benefit of the doubt and looked to supply it a fair shake in our analysis of it, whose results you can check out below.
Theme & Design
Twister is a home game that has attained immense popularity in the US. It has been available since 1966 when Milton Bradley Company and Winning Moves Games produced it and made it available for sale in North America. It is the brainchild of Minneapolis toy designer Charles Foley, who co-invented Twister along with Neil W. Rabens and received only $27,000 (in royalties) for coming up with the concept of Twister. Hasbro now makes this game, which gets advertised as one that will tie you up in knots and enjoys worldwide establishment these days.
Even if you have not played it, you likely have seen it played in movies or by friends. It features a white mat with four rows of different-colored circles on it, and players spin an arrow that tells them where to put each extremity.
Aside from Monopoly, we cannot think of too many home games that have gotten turned into online slots. We guess this one could get classified as a Spin The Wheel title, of which there are more than a few.
Concerning the presentation you get here. It is cartoony and somewhat similar in tone to recent NenEnt spinners, such as Ticket to Wild. The graphics here are cartoony and reminiscent of animated TV series from the 1960s and 1970s. It seems like the setting of this game is a 1970s apartment going by the décor, with crowd party banter and some subtle music playing in the background from an old record player.
In all honesty, the audio vibe of this game reminded us of the new Flintstones slot, and we would call the base gameplay presentation dull. You get more dynamic and louder music in the free spin bonus, where the party light comes on, and the characters start playing Twister on the symbol layout.
The animations here are pretty basic, and you get the usual NetEnt button setup, with the spin functions in the middle, the bet selector in the lower-left corner on a desktop, and below the Buy Feature option. Your balance and win info is presented in the bottom right corner, while the game setting, info, mute, and full-screen buttons sit in the top right.
Specs & Gameplay
The grid Twister implements is a four-reel, six-row one with 1,296 betways. You can find this slot boasting three RTP settings. The most often used one is a 96.04% one, and the other two have a return-to-player spec of 94.05% and 88.02%, the minimum in some online gambling jurisdictions. The variance level of this NetEnt creation is high, and its max win is x4,3000 your stake. The highest wager you can make on these spinning digital reels is $100 per gaming round, and the lowest is $0.20.
You get rewards in this game by lining up three or four matching tokens on one of this title’s paylines. The low-pay symbols here are four card royals – A, K, Q, and J. They will return wins of $0.20 for a $1 bet if you line up for identical tokens from this group on a Twister payline. The four comic book-style characters in this interactive gaming product yield wins of x0.5 to x1 for four-of-a-kind combos.
We should not forget to mention that this is a cascading slot, and given by the noted pay table here, you can see that the attractive prizes here get earned in the free spin bonus.
Bonus Features
The Twister Spinner can show up anywhere on the grid during both the base gameplay and the bonus round, and it activates the Twister Spinner wheel, which gets divided by four body parts, each associated with a unique wild type and by color. The latter determines the strength of the wild. The left foot turns the Spinner into an upgrade wild, transforming low-pay into high-pay symbols. The right one converts the Spinner into a multiplier substitution symbol. The right changes into a locked wild that stays for several cascades, and the left hand creates a random wild effect, adding additional wilds.
The free spin mode in Twister gets triggered by three or four scatters, giving you six or eleven complimentary spins, respectively. During this round, landing two to four scatters awards an extra one to four spins after a cascade. The round begins with a progressive multiplier set at x1. It grows by +1 with each Twister Spinner appearing. The wins here are multiplied by the active multiplier, which updates before each win gets calculated for a cascade and remains active during this round. You can buy your entry for a price of x100.
GOSU Verdict
For a licensed product, we are not sure that NetEnt paying Hasbro the money necessary to create this game will be worth it in the long run, as we do not see it having much-staying power, as evidenced by the current stats. We did not feel the Twister idea works well in an online slot, or it did not get incorporated interestingly enough here, and this NetEnt game as a reel spinner did not bring much excitement to us, so we cannot recommend it for you to try it. The max win here is not bad, and this is not a horrible slot in any sense. But it is just not very interesting, and ranks as average in our eyes.
