Rabid Randy Slot Review
NetEnt is an online gambling game supplier with which we would think most of our reader pool is super familiar. This legendary studio from Sweden, which now operates under Evolution AB, has been responsible for some of the most famous Internet slots ever. However, in recent times, they have churned out mediocre ones on the regular. They have not made the news much in the past few months either, aside from expanding their reach in Denmark through a NetBet deal.
The company did not wow us with their past few titles, but we still cling to hope that they can do this at any time. Remember, this is the same provider that brought us Gonzo’s Quest and Dead or Alive 2. Casino Night was NetEnt’s best attempt at doing something memorable, and they semi-accomplished that. By the looks of it, Rabid Randy, this developer’s freshest product, which hit casino lobbies on October 8th, 2024, also has some potential of being a unique game with legs. At least, that is what it looks like at first sight. Below, we analyze it in detail to see if this is the case or if NetEnt has fooled us once again and unleashed another average spinner that will not be remembered by many in a couple of years.
Theme & Design
The theme here appears to be a rabid lumberjack, a Paul Bunyan-type one. For those unfamiliar with American-Canadian folklore and the legend of Paul Bunyan, he is a giant of a man with almost superhuman strength who was not a historical figure but a legend that may have been based on Fabian Fournier, a Quebec-born lumberjack who worked in Michigan. The lumberjack in Rabid Randy is quite old and small. But he wears the signature fur hat that many associate with Bunyan and lives out in the woods. He also does not appear to be interested in cutting down trees, as he appears to be in not a prime physical state, and looks to be more interested in shooting anything that irritates him, using his double-barreled gun. Also, he may have rabies, at least that is what gets alluded to in the presentation, and the title of this spinner, which has horror vibes but a lighter-than-expected soundtrack.
The visuals here are quite nice. They reminded us of those in the Cartoon Network show Courage the Cowardly Dog. Not that much in visual style, but more in tone. The music here is really good, as it has a playful, country vibe with a fantastical eerie touch, which also goes for the graphics that depict a scary forest setting, a part of nature that has seen better days. You also get some humming to liven up the audio side of things, which features some classic sound effects.
In terms of Rabid Randy’s user interface, you get a range of buttons in the top right corner, including settings, info, mute, and a full-screen icon. Under the grid sit the spin functions, and to the left of them is the bet selector, while to the right of the bottom middle screen button section lays your win and site balance info.
Specs & Gameplay
The symbol layout in Rabid Randy is a 3-4-5-4-3 one with twenty paylines. The variance level here is high, and the wager sizes move from $0.10 on the lowest to $250 on the highest end. The game comes in four RTP iterations. These are 91.05%, 93.05%, 95.05%, and 96.06%. Like in most cases, the highest RTP version is the most common one, and like the other variants, it will carry a max win of x19,00 your stake.
You get rewards in Rabid Randy by landing three to five matching symbols on one of this game’s twenty defined paylines. These pay left to right; with winning combos forming in succession. No gaps are allowed, and only the best win per line gets paid out.
You have five bone royals that produce wins from x0.4 to x0.9 for five-of-a-kind combos and five animal premiums that yield wins from x1.2 to x5 when five instances of the same type token from this group hit. The word wild is the substitution symbol in Rabid Randy, and it also pays x5 for five wilds landing on the same spin.
Bonus Features
Regarding bonuses, paw symbols highlight positions with trap-shaped Frames. They can upgrade to Hot Paws at random, and when that occurs, the frames morph into active ones, which turn adjacent frames to these wild on the next spin. Frames remain until they transform or free spins start.
The collect meter fills as Paw symbols land, increasing the free spins multiplier every time two hundred points get collected up to a maximum of x1,000. In the standard gameplay, a paw that hits with no frame gets collected, boosting the meter by one. If it lands on a spot with a frame or an active one, it again gets collected and removed, but this time, the number of points that go into the meter can reach four.
To gain access to the Rabid Randy free spin round, you need three Rabid Randy symbols to appear on the middle three reels, which will get your three spins to start. Here, frames that did not go wild turn into Trophy tokens with random values attached up to x50. In this mode, only blanks and trophies show up, and the spin counter goes back to three when the trophy appears. When it does, it remains sticky. This round concludes when all positions get filled or when you have no spins left. Trophy values get multiplied by the free spins’ multiplier at the end.
GOSU Verdict
Essentially, this is another take on Rome: The Golden Age by NetEnt. Still, we will analyze it as its own thing, and as such, we will say that Rabid Randy is one of the better 2024 NetEnt releases. It is something more along the lines of what we expect from this company. While it is nothing too overly exciting or novel, it has a somewhat different presentation, engaging enough features, and a satisfactory max exposure setting paired with a wide betting range. The distinct theme and style of Rabid Randy bumped this title up a notch for us, as we found it to be more fun than its Roman counterpart and more charming overall. So, we would tell you to check it out.
