Beach Invaders Slot Review
It has been about a month since we reviewed a NetEnt slot. In truth, this famed Swedish provider has not made much news lately. So, not seeing its name in our feed is responsible for our interest not getting piqued to look into what NetEnt has been up to recently. We know it cut a deal to offer its creations to Reevo’s operator partners, a top-end B2B iGaming provider that works with Booming Games and Pragmatic Play. Business dealings aside, this legendary game developer has been busy on the product release front, unleashing four titles in August 2023.
The last game we looked at from NetEnt was Wild Turkey Megaways, which hit the Web in mid-July. Well, Beach Invaders was the last of the company’s spinners set loose in August, debuting on the 31st of this month. In the first week following its release, it has trended in the top ten rankings in Malta and the Netherlands and in the top one hundred in many other markets. Hence, that and the fact that it looked like a cute game are enough for us to give you our opinion of this spinner.
Theme & Design
We would say that this spinner has two themes. The first is monsters, and the second is a summer/beach motif. Concerning scary (adorable) creatures, Play’n GO’s Reactoonz games and Chaos Crew ones from Hacksaw Gaming dominate this category. However, BGaming is making headway in this sub-genre with its Alien Fruits x15000 and Candy Monsta releases. Regarding slots boasting beach/summer imagery and vibes, the BGamings Aloha King Elvis game is doing quite well, and City Pop Hawaii from Fugaso is making some waves as a fairly new slot.
While Beach Invaders does not feature a super novel presentation, we must say that the 1950s rock music incorporated here really gave the presented reel-spinning action a boost. The visuals are also quite decent. They are colorful graphics in a cartoony style, enhanced by some slight animations. You also have a UFO flying around in the background now and again, and the sound effects added have been specially crafted to fit this game. Also, please note that the wild is a 3D model that blends surprisingly nicely with the overall presentation. So, while nothing jaw-dropping, Beach Invaders looks appealing enough, and its music is what makes this game’s presentation stand out since it is its best element.
You will find the bet adjuster in this game in the central bottom panel. There, it gets flanked by the auto-spin function and the hamburger settings button. Below this area is an info bar that tells you your bonus balance and supplies links to this title’s paytable and help page. The spin button here floats right off the 5×4 grid. It has the word spin on a green background and two arrows chasing each other in a loop.
Specs & Gameplay
Beach Invaders is a high-variance game with a ranging RTP that should stand at 96.17% at default. It has a betting range that starts at $0.1 and ends at $10, which is super disappointing. We do not understand this NetEnt choice. Maybe they selected to set the max bet at such a low amount in favor of advertising the max high exposure of x10,500 on this 5×4, thirty payline spinner. Note that you can automate up to two thousand spins in Beach Invaders.
The low-paying tokens of this game are A-10 green alien royals supplying wins up x1.5 to x10 for five-of-a-kind combinations. The premiums are four extraterrestrials who bring prizes of x20 to x50 when five materialize on the same spin. The glasses-wearing frog-like creature here is the wild, which can also payout wins of x50 when it appears five times on the same spin.
We assume you already realize that to attain rewards in this slot, you must line up three to five matching symbols on one of its thirty paylines, hitting these on adjacent reels, with them paying left to right.
Bonus Features
While NetEnt slots usually have a limited number of bonus features, this one tries to spice things up with a wild that grows to encompass its hit reel. It can appear on all the reels, significantly improving your chances of creating winning combos. There is also a progress bar in Beach Invaders with four milestones on it, each informing you of how many reel rotations wilds will remain locked. Ice cube patches attached to standard pay tokens fill this meter (up to twenty can get collected), and when it gets packed, Beach Invaders will guarantee that one wild will hit and stay sticky for four spins.
If you happen to land three scatters, alien ships with the phrase free spins on them in yellow and red, you will enter the free spin round, where the wild will act as a shifting one carrying an increasing multiplier. What does that mean? It will move to a left position and up or down at random, scaling up in size, with a growing multiplier (increasing by x1 per shift) activating after the first wild movement. Remember that in Beach Invaders, if more than one multiplier comes into play, only the highest value will be applied to your win.
GOSU Verdict
Beach Invaders is a cute little slot, but we cannot say it left us wanting more. The free spins mode here, while sounding pretty decent on paper, in practice was not very exciting or engaging. On top of this, the max win potential here is low, and going by available stats, Beach Invaders does not have a reputation for awarding super-high multipliers.
We have always liked shifting/moving wild games. However, while this one is not horrible, we believe better options in this category can get found at our highlighted crypto casinos. For example, Hacksaw Gaming’s Beast Below slot, which appeared online in June 2023, is a much better reel-spinning product with expanding wilds and a walking mechanic. It also has more varied bonus features. So, we recommend it over NetEnt’s Beach Invaders, which is Okay but overall underwhelming.
