Day of the Dinero Slot Review
We just ran an article that lists some of the best slots featuring the Mexican holiday – Day of the Dead as their theme. In our opinion, these are the top titles in the online gambling realm boasting this motif. One of them was Day of the Dinero by Gameburger Studios, the product supplier famous for its 9 Pots series. In that article, we noted we quite liked this spinner, so we thought we would tell you more about it in a more detailed scan. It appeared in gambling sites’ lobbies on June 25th, 2024.
And, per the available data, it has trended in the top one hundred most-played game standings in markets like the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, and Spain in the first month following its launch. That should come as no surprise, as this provider’s creations usually do well everywhere, and we expected nothing less from Day of the Dinero, which, visually and gameplay-wise, is a more stimulating release than most others from Gameburger. Below, we will explain why and go more in-depth about why we fancied this El Día de los Muertos-themed spinner.
Theme & Design
We already covered the Day of the Dead in our article dedicated to slots that feature it, what it is, and how it attained its current form. For those who have not read that piece of content and do not plan to, we will add here that this is a famous Mexican holiday that has been depicted in films like Coco, the James Bond sequel – Spectre from 2015, and the highly underrated Albert Finney classic from 1984 – Under the Volcano, among others. Contrary to popular belief, the Day of the Dead is not a celebration of death but of life. It is a holiday that Mexicans celebrate on the first and second of November each year as a way to honor the loved ones that have passed. Without question, the honoree celebrations tied into the Day of the Dead are a mix of customs from the Indigenous Aztec people who have lived in the northern part of North America for centuries and the traditions that the Catholic Spanish colonizers brought over. If you have watched Pixar’s Coco, you are familiar that rich parades, foods, and alters are aspects of how Mexicans celebrate life and death as interconnected parts of human existence.
You have your fair share of Day of the Dead slots, and a few that are worth considering but we did not list in the mentioned article are Lucky Dama Muerta by BGaming, Wild Bandito from PG Soft, Neko Game’s Catrina, Dia Del Mariachi Megaways by All For One Studio.
We love how colorful – Day of the Dinero is. And it does have the Coco vibe. The main mariachi-like character stands left of the reel grid in an empty street adorned for a Day of the Dead celebration. He is a smiling skeleton who, while charming, has a hint of the macabre. The game has appropriate Spanish-style music, and we like the grid animations and the two dogs that join our undead guitarist, whose names we assume are Puprika and Muttmeg. Overall, the presentation here has a dose of bewitching appeal, and we enjoyed it.
The spin buttons here have gotten laid out below the bottom right corner of the 5×3 layout, and left of it is a purple bar that holds the bet selector, your site balance, the mute icon, and the settings one.
Specs & Gameplay
As discussed above, the gaming action in Day of the Dinero, a dazzling spectacle of color, as its creator calls it, happens on a symbol layout with five reels and three rows. The default RTP here is 96% (86.75%, 92%, and 94% versions also exist), and the variance of this product is low. You get thirty paylines that can produce wins up to x5,000, and wins should occur in this game with an Okay degree of regularity, as the hit frequency here is 29, and this slot has a pretty acceptable betting range for all, as its lowest wager is $0.20, and its highest is $50 per spin.
The unique thing about this spinner is that all symbol positions spin independently. Rewards get claimed in Day of the Dinero when you line up three to five identical tokens from two groups on one of this title’s thirty paylines. The first group consists of five low-pay royals, producing wins from x1 to x1.4 for five-of-a-kind combos. The second is four premiums. These are a bottle, bongos, a guitar, and a hat, yielding prizes from x2 to x10 for five-of-a-kind combinations.
Bonus Features
Day of the Dinero has a unique Symbol Upgrade Feature in its bonus and base gameplay. Here, non-winning symbols may get upgraded. The center reel/spot upgrades to a Collector, while the others, in the base game, upgrade to Cash or Jackpot tokens. During the free spins, the other reels upgrade to Jackpot tokens or extra spins. The Collector, the main character, is the wild here, and he gathers landed Cash and Jackpot symbols, locking during the free spin bonus, only appearing on the central position.
Now, let’s get into the Feature Pots. Collecting treat tokens can increase the number of free spins and multipliers. Tokens collected by the Free Spins Pot, a doggy bowl, boost the number of the awarded on-the-house gaming rounds up to twelve. Every collected token adds one. The dog Puprika gathers the complimentary spins, and Mutimeg collects the multipliers up to a max value of x5. Collecting tokens in either pot can randomly activate the free spin mode, with both pots awarded at their current value and the Collector symbol locked in the center for each spin.
The slot also has Rising Rewards Jackpots, which increase as you snag golden flower tokens. These increase a jackpot by x0.2 to x1, with five levels, from the Mini (4x to 30x) to the Grand (500x to 1,000x). During the free spins, only Collector, Cash, Extra Spins, and Jackpot symbols are active, with the Collector awarding the value of any Jackpot token in view. Jackpots reset at the start of the next spin when won.
GOSU Verdict
We like Day of the Dinero. We like the name of this Gameburger release and its presentation, and we think the specs are fair, particularly for a low-variance title. Our gripe with this spinner is that its bonus features are a bit complicated, and we are not sure we explained them well here. Give it a try in demo mode to figure out how they work precisely. That is holding us back from recommending this game. But, overall, we do not think it is a bad choice and would rate it as an interesting pick for veteran reel-spinning enthusiasts.
