Cat Clans Slot Review
Snowborn Games is a Scandinavian game developer that got up and running in 2017. In 2018, the Asian game distributor QTech Games decided to purchase a substantial stake in this company. Quickly after this occurrence, they signed a deal with interactive gaming pioneer Microgaming. The partnership allowed Snowborn to offer its products on all Microgaming-powered platforms.
For now, Snowborn has released only nine slots in its four-year existence, available at more than four hundred online casinos. The plan is for their development team to create more games relatively soon. In November 2021, they unleashed their most successful release ever, Cat Clans. At the time of writing, this slot is hovering around the number 20-position in most markets and seems to be the springboard this provider needs to establish itself as one from whom online gamblers can soon expect more high-quality games.
Theme & Design
Okay, the theme here is cartoony cats battling in a medieval setting. Naturally, the visuals utilized by Snowborn Games to bring this concept into the slot-verse are cartoony. If that was not the case, this game could likely get classified as horror. They are colorful and charming illustrations that feature disproportional objects and elements borrowed from multiple Viking-inspired reel-spinners. There is nothing complex concerning the presentation here. It is joyful, the characters are adorable, boasting a Kung Fu Panda vibe, and the music used is unobtrusive. We found the Big Win sound effects a bit annoying, but other than that, we quite liked the feel this game was going for and what it accomplished.
Cat Clans’ base gameplay happens during the day, with a mountainous region and a castle acting as the game’s backdrop while its reels spin inside an arrow-ridden wooden frame. Once you enter the Clan Battle Bonus, night falls, and a chest filled with gold bars left of the reel grid opens. The Cat-a-Pult round takes place during dusk.
Presentation-wise, this slot is super cute. We will for sure note that. There is a sense of depth to the scene here, and the character animations when winning combos form are adorable. It looks and feels like many games from the Armenia-based studio Peter & Sons.
All the game buttons here are on the right side of the screen on a desktop browser. They have gotten stacked on top of each other, and they have gotten ordered as follows. The mute button is at the peak of the mountain. The spins ones are in the middle. The bet-adjuster and the settings options are at the bottom of the pile.
Specs & Gameplay
Cat Clans is a five-reel, three-row game with a high variance setting and a hit frequency of 33.29. The default RTP here is 94%, but it can also be 92% or 96%, depending on your chosen operator. The game has twenty paylines, and its bet sizes go from $0.2 on the lowest end to $25 on the highest. It awards prizes when you land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost one. The most you stand to win on Cat Clans is a reward worth x20,000 your wager.
The low-paying symbols of this slot are J-A royals, plus a bottle of milk and a fish skeleton. These yield rewards in the range of x1.25 to x5 for hitting five identical tokens from this batch on the reel grid. The four cat characters are the high-paying symbols of this reel-spinner, and they produce wins of x10 to x12.5 for five-of-a-kind.
A bomb with a cat skull is the Wild here, and it can substitute all other symbols except for the Scatter. Wilds in this game can land on all the reels, and they come with an x1 to x5 multiplier attached. If a winning combo gets comprised out of multiple participating Wilds, their multiplier values get multiplied together. Hitting three to five Wilds on a single spin can also generate rewards. Getting five Wilds in view produces a win of x111 your stake. A catapult with the phrase Free Spins is the Scatter here. If it appears three times on a single spin, it will activate the Free Spins round and produce a win worth x1.5 your wager.
Bonus Features
When you manage to get three Scatters, or castle symbols, on the grid, at the same time, you will get rewarded with three Cat-a-Pult Free Spins. Inside this mode, Wilds reset your number of complimentary reel rotations back to three, and they become sticky for the duration of this feature. They also boast an increasing multiplier (up to x9) when they land. The value of one of your landed Wilds’ multipliers, the game chooses which, increases by x1 per spin until you run out of complimentary reel rotations.
There is a golden paw overlay that can appear over any cat symbol. It can trigger the Clan Battle Bonus. When that mode starts, each of the four cats gets its prize multiplier, one in the range of x10 to x10,000. The feature begins with five free spins, and depending on which cat symbol lands the most during these five reel rotations, you win its associated multiplier. If there is a tie, the game provides an extra spin.
In some jurisdictions, you can buy your way inside the Cat-a-Pult round. The price for this option is x50 your stake.
GOSU Verdict
We found Cat Clans endearing and had a lovable reel-spinning experience playing it. The default RTP here is a tad low at 94%, but that is somewhat standard for high variance games. That said, the max bet of $25 is not. So, that disappointed us. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Its base gameplay is simple, and its bonus features are not overly complicated but are dynamic enough to keep you engaged. We recommend Cat Clans for some delightfully pleasing reel-spinning fun. It is a slot you can dig your claws into.
