Warrior Ways Slot Review
We have talked about Hacksaw Gaming before. You may have read our Chaos Crew, Wanted Dead or a Wild, and Tasty Treats reviews. Founded in 2018, this studio aimed to rethink classical casino products and create some innovative online scratch card games. However, they are now best known as a slot company. One that partnered with Relax Gaming in 2019. Hence, you can find Hacksaw products at platforms that work with Relax.
Warrior Ways is Hacksaw’s latest reel-spinner, first exclusively released on March 17th at specific platforms and then widely on March 29th. As expected, a day following it, hitting online casinos everywhere, Warrior Ways made its way into the top 100 most-played slots on the internet. It boasts a slick design, and we believe that it may become a fan favorite for years to come.
Theme & Design
The theme here is warring Japanese warrior clans. Although images of ninjas have gotten heavily used to market this slot, it also features samurais and other warrior types. This game does not have a historical setting but seems to feature a neo-retro futuristic one. The storyline of this title revolves around four warring clans, each one wearing attire that gets dominated by the four following colors, red, orange, blue, and green. For the uninformed, ninjas are covert mercenaries that existed in feudal Japan, masters in stealth assassinations. Samurais were hereditary military nobility that was around during this same period. They proved themselves as apt combatants during the 13th century when the Mongols tried to invade Japan.
Like most Hacksaw titles, this one also has a compact look. While other developers want to fill the entire screen with the reel-grid, Hacksaw’s design team likes to give it a little breathing room, giving the background a chance to shine. Here, the latter is an empty city street at what we assume is dusk. The color palette of this game is unique, blending pinks, purples, greens, blues, and reds. The music is an electronic tune that helps craft the sci-fi retro feeling Hacksaw is going for with this slot.
The button configuration is the standard one that Hacksaw always uses. The spin, bet-adjuster, and auto-spin buttons are on the right side section of the panel at the bottom of your screen, while on its left, you can access the settings menu and activate the Bonus Buy option.
Specs & Gameplay
Warrior Ways uses a 5×4 grid and has 1,024 ways to win. So to win a prize, you must hit three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost one.
Since the default RTP here is 94.42%, as expected, the variance of this spinner is high. But, like all Hacksaw products, the return-to-player percentage of this title can vary from 80% to 97%. That depends on the operator, player jurisdiction, and the gaming license a casino operates under. Where we played it, it had an RTP of 92.3%.
The max win potential of Warrior Ways is x10,000 your stake, and the bet sizes here range from $0.1 to $100 per spin. The hit frequency setting of this product gets listed as 27.
The low-paying symbols of the game are different clan emblems. They pay x0.5 for five-of-a-kind. The high-paying tokens of Warrior Ways are four warriors representing the story’s four clans that battle for supremacy in the fictional futuristic city. Landing five identical warriors on the same spin will produce a win of x1 your bet, regardless of their clan affiliation.
The Wild here is a golden mask, it can substitute all pay symbols, and it pays out rewards worth x50 your wager for five Wilds appearing on the reel grid on the same reel rotation.
Bonus Features
There are three bonus features in the game. The first is the Duel mode, the core mechanic of this game. It gets activated when the VS token lands between two different warrior symbols. Note, the VS symbol can only appear on the middle three reels, and when it does, in the described position, each of the warriors gets provided with a random multiplier from x1 to x100. When the face-off concludes, the winning clan’s high symbol will replace all instances of the losing one. That can include the losing clan’s high and low symbols in specific scenarios. The VS token also gets subbed by the winning clan’s symbol.
Warrior Ways has two bonus games. These are Clash and Conquest. Each one has its associated word symbol, and they get triggered when three instances of these tokens land anywhere on the same spin.
In the Clash mode, three spins get awarded, and this number can get reset whenever a clan multiplier lands or a VS symbol hits. The feature divides into two phases. The first is Collect, and it has no pay symbols, only VS ones and clan multipliers. The aim here is to pick up as many of these as possible. Here, VS symbols can only land on the third reel. There, no clan multipliers can hit. Reels one, two, four, and five correspond to a warrior clan. Each bears its colors. The multiplier value above each column here begins at x1 and grows when a clan multiplier hits on that reel. Now, epic clan multipliers are exclusive multiplier symbols that can only be hit on the third reel. They multiply all the gathered multiplier values above the first, second, fourth, and fifth reels by x2. When the collect phase offers no more reel rotations, the clash stage will then begin. There, the number of spins you get depends on how many VS symbols you have snagged in the collect phase, and on every reel rotation in this stage, a duel happens.
The Conquest Bonus kicks things off with ten complimentary reel rotations, and it adds an extra spin when a new conquest symbol appears. In this mode, each clan has a banner that can take two points of damage. When a warrior loses a duel, his banner receives one point of damage. When a clan’s banner gets destroyed, they get eliminated, and their symbols disappear from the reels. Plus, one extra free spin gets awarded.
The Bonus Buy of Warrior Ways costs x100 for the Clash feature, and the Conquest one has an x400 price tag, but it also comes with a medium variance setting.
GOSU Verdict
We adore Warrior Ways. It may be a tad complicated for most newbies, but if you want dynamic reel-spinning fun, this is the slot that you simply must try. Hacksaw has a proven track record of supplying quality games that bend the rules slightly, and they have proven that once again with this release. We tested out Warrior Ways for close to an hour and loved virtually everything we saw in this game. Don’t wait. Try it today.
