Toro 7s Slot Review
ELK Studios is one in a long line of Swedish online slot developers. We haven’t talked about them as much, even though they have around sixty reel-spinners and have existed since 2013. So, we figured that it was time we gave a product from their catalog a look, and what better one to pick than a new sequel to their most popular release ever, Wild Toro. Toro 7s is an entry into ELK’s super successful Wild Toro series, unleashed on November 19th, 2021. A week into its debut, it almost hit the top 100 rankings but quickly fell out of the industry’s favor, dropping to as low as the 1,500-mark in early December. Nevertheless, it made a comeback at the tail end of 2021, as it managed to get back to where it was when it first appeared at online casinos. Thus, we decided that it was worthy of our analysis.
Theme & Design
In 2017, ELK Studios got awarded the Game of the Year award at the EGR Operators Awards for their bullfighting-themed slot titled Wild Toro. It proved to be a surprise hit thanks to its innovative math model. Trying to capitalize on this success, ELK has churned out several products in the Toro series, including Wild Toro, Book of Toro, and now Toro 7s. For those unfamiliar with bullfighting, it is a brutal contest between a performer called a matador, and a bull, where the first has to subdue or kill the animal to satisfy an on-looking crowd. It is a controversial practice that evokes a range of concerns. Yet, it has deep roots in multiple Spanish-speaking cultures.
Audio-visually, Toro7s is not spectacular, and that is an understatement. It has a Mojave Desert landscape at dusk as its backdrop and a screen on top of its reels showing video of the world’s most famous gambling destination, Las Vegas. Some laid-back rock music plays here as you spin the reels of this game, whose grid features rudimentary symbol graphics. We have to say that the Toro 7s soundtrack is likely the coolest thing about this slot, presentation-wise. However, hearing the same song over and over again gets rather annoying quickly.
The button configuration here is as follows. The spin and auto-spin buttons are on the right side of your screen, while the bet-adjuster and the settings one are on the left. They are your basic graphics. You can check your balance and bet size at the bottom of the screen.
Specs & Gameplay
Toro 7s is a medium variance spinner with a hit frequency of 16.4 and an RTP of 95%. It implements the classic 3×3 fruit machine grid and has seventeen paylines. Bet sizes here range from $0.2 to $100, and the most that you can hope to win in this game is a prize worth x10,000 your stake. That is quite generous, to be frank. Particularly for a medium variance game. Of course, to win a reward, you need to land three matching symbols on a payline.
The low-paying symbols of Toro 7s are cherries, lemons, plums, and bar tokens, which pay x0.5 to x.2.5 for three-of-a-kind. The different colored 7s are the game’s high-paying symbols, and they yield rewards from x3.5 to x10 for hitting three matching images on a payline.
The matador is the Wild here, while Toro the bull is a multiplier Wild. The Toro 7s logo is this slot’s Scatter.
Bonus Features
When a matador shows up on the middle reel, he activates a Nudging Respin. That entails him nudging one spot down on the grid and initiating an extra spin. The matador keeps doing this until he moves off the grid.
Landing a Toro Wild on the third reel will trigger this same feature. However, if you manage to hit both Wilds on the same spin, the Toro one will get locked in place until the matador makes his way off-screen.
If three Toro 7s logos jump on the grid, you will enter the Free Spins round. There, you will get provided with ten complimentary reel rotations, and all your wins will get multiplied by x5. If three Toro 7s Scatters appear during the Free Spins round, the Lucky Sevens bonus mode will start. That is a symbol collect feature where each round begins with three respins that can get replenished by collecting 7s on designated reels. If you land no win in three spins and collect no sevens, the Lucky Sevens bonus mode ends.
ELK has also equipped this basic-looking slot with a Bonus Buy feature via the X-iter button, which gives players five choices. The top one is purchasing the Super Chili Bonus for x500 your stake. It will provide a progressive win multiplier and specific reels with cherries and sevens only. IF that is too rich for your blood, you can buy a Chili Spin for a price of x5 and get a spin with only 7s and cherries appearing on designated reels.
GOSU Verdict
Look, this game is not as naïve as we thought at first sight. It implements multiple gameplay features on a 3×3 grid. It may not look like much, but its gameplay can get vigorous at times, and its max win of x10,000 is impressive. We are not sure if we should recommend it, as we usually want our slots to be at least somewhat visually pleasing, which this game is not. That said, old-school Vegas slot gaming is the vibe ELK was going for with this release, and they have done a decent job of capturing it. We will say that Toro 7s is worth a look alone for being a medium variance spinner with a massive prize potential.
