Hacksaw Gaming is one of our favorite game studios, always creating good-looking and creative games. The company recently attained regulatory approval by the Spillemyndigheden, or the Danish Gambling Authority, which allowed it to enter this country’s gaming market. It also made headlines by coming into Pennsylvania and gaining a manufacturer license from this region’s regulator. It is the fourth US seal of approval Hacksaw has earned, and this provider also has a license from Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission, which it got in 2022.
Donut Division is a Hacksaw release that somewhat caught us by surprise, as we were not looking too in-depth into this studio’s upcoming reel-spinning debuts this past month. Moreover, we saw no press release for this game in our feed, which is surprising, as this is a product that the company’s teams have clearly put a decent amount of effort into. It was the fourth they set loose in December, along with Mines for 1Win, Shaolin Master, and Lucky Multifruit. Donut Division showed up at casino sites on December 12th, 2024, and in the first month of its release, it has done reasonably well, standing strong in the top one hundred most-played game standings in Finland, Norway, India, and Malta. Theme & Design
The name of this slot, Donut Division, is clearly a nod to the common US stereotype that police officers in America stuff their faces with donuts. That is a notion that has some factual basis, stemming from the fact that American cops working night shifts would hang around bakeries, which were among the only businesses open in the middle of the night, and would give them coffee and pastries for free for hanging around and keeping them safe so late.
With the name out of the way, let us get into the real theme here, which is police TV shows from the 1970s and 1980s, such as Hill Street Blues and Starsky & Hutch. These were ones set in Urban environments like New York and Los Angeles. The common motifs among these shows were mismatched partners, a mix of humor and drama, and staple characters like idealistic rookies and jaded veterans. In truth, the main characters here reminded us more of those in the Spike Jonze-directed music video for Sabotage by the Beastie Boys than anything else.
Graphically, you get some good cartoony illustrations in Donut Division. They are of a high quality, the kind you would expect from Hacksaw’s team. The visuals here, which include the character actions of our two heroes flanking the reel grid, which hovers in the middle of a street where we assume an ambush gets organized, get accompanied by a funky 1970s tune. The sound effects here have also been specifically chosen to enhance this game’s theme and include things like siren sounds and car honks.
We quite like the presentation of Donut Division, it feels a bit different, and stays true to the spirit of the TV shows that Hacksaw attempted to capture, and did so successfully.

When multiple rows of connected Gooey Wilds contribute to a win, their multipliers get combined. Lastly, six Gooey Wilds on a line awards x5 your bet.
When you hit three or four, the FS badge scatters trigger the Bonus Choice menu. Landing three gives you the option to choose between the Warehouse or Stakeout bonus while hitting four supplies you the possibility to go into the Super Warehouse or Super Stakeout bonus. The Warehouse bonus begins with three lives and implements a grid with non-paying and special symbols. The latter adds multipliers up to x100 to the total multiplier, multiplying the total multiplier up to x10, expands the flashlight to reveal a 3×3 section, which reverts to 1×1 after activation, revealing/collecting all symbols on the grid in a spin (light switch), and consumes a flashlight charge (dead tokens) switching off the flashlight.
Each spin consumes one life unless a special symbol lands. When that occurs, the count is reset to three. If no special tokens are hit for three consecutive spins, the round ends, and the total multiplier is awarded.
We should also go into the flashlight mechanics. Two 1×1 flashlights illuminate grid spots to reveal hidden symbols. Special ones activate their effects, and the flashlights move to new positions without using their charge. In the Super Warehouse, all adding multipliers have boast a value of x5 or higher.
The Stakeout mode is similar to the base gameplay but increases the chances of you landing Gooey Guns with higher-value multipliers. Two scatters add two free spins, and three supply four. In the Super Stakeout, once a Gooey Gun lands on a row, another Gooey Gun gets guaranteed to hit on that row on every subsequent spin in the round.
You can utilize a bonus buy option in Donut Division. It gives you the choice of paying x3 for five times better odds of triggering a bonus. Then, for a cost of x50, you can get at least two Gooey Guns per spin; by paying x100 your stake, you can directly choose between the Warehouse and Stakeout bonuses, and if you are willing to fork over x200, you can select between the super versions of these.

Yeah, there is a lot to love here. This slot has many features, which we are not so sure we did a great job of explaining here.
