Big Time Gaming is a slot provider that we are sure most readers know. It does not release as many games as many of its high-profile competitors, as it usually puts out one title per month. In December 2024, Big Time Gaming debuted Burgers as their sole slot for the twelfth month of 2024, capping off a successful year with a game producing reasonable but unspectacular numbers worldwide. It is seemingly best connecting with gamblers from Canada, New Zealand, Finland, and Norway, and it did not rank highly in other top markets upon its worldwide release.
Burgers appeared online on December 11th, 2024, and according to a recent interview we read with Nik Robinson, the founder and CEO of Big Time Gaming, he called Burgers a sizzling adventure packed with flavor and explosive rewards. To be honest, his multi-sentence answer on Burgers seemed more like something out of a press release than a human response. Nevertheless, Big Time Gaming’s team seemed high on this release, and here we tell you if it is a play or a pass.
Design & Theme
You would be hard-pressed to find a meat lover who hates burgers. Although this meal used to be most associated with fast-food restaurants, today, it is also a mainstay in many higher-end eating establishments. The concept of shaping minced meat into patties can be traced back to Genghis Khan. However, per historians, it was Russian cuisine that influenced the creation of steak tartare. In the 19th century, the Hamburg-style steak became especially popular in Europe, particularly among dock workers and sailors, and it is from this German city that this meal derives its name. Despite this documented evolution, some still claim that the modern burger is a product of the US. What cannot be debated is that it was in early 20th-century America that burgers attained widespread popularity, chiefly thanks to roadside diners.
We scratched our heads, trying to come up with some other burger-themed spinners. We could not. However, we did some research and found that a few online gambling games with a burger motif do exist. You have KA Gaming’s Burger Jenga Lock2Spin, and American Burger from this provider. Then, iSoftBet’s Royale with Cheese Megaways, a nod to Pulp Fiction, and Hungry Chef by Caleta, to name a few.
This is a pretty interesting-looking game. It has an old-school interface, with buttons that would be at home in a slot from the early 2010s and sound effects akin to those found in titles from this period. The symbols, too, have an old-time vibe, but the background graphics are pretty modern and of decent painterly quality, depicting a small diner in the middle of the desert with a burger-shaped roof. In the bonus round here, you get some synth music as the diner shoots up towards the sky as a spaceship, and day turns to night. The music you will experience in Burgers by Big Time Gaming sounds like something out of a 1990s game show, and overall, the presentation here was a bit too retro for our taste. We are talking about a vintage look and feel we do not like. The base game setting is okay, but we were not fans of the bonus switch-up. You get the usual Big Time Gaming font in Burgers, and you will find all the buttons to the right of the reel grid, where the symbols spin inside a jukebox-type frame.
We should not forget to add that this game is a spiritual sequel to Big Time’s 2018 Donuts release, and it has a super comparable presentation to that slot. It is very similar.
Specs & Gameplay
The RTP of Burgers is 96.41% via regular play, and 96.42% when you activate the bonus buy option. It can also come in versions that boast a base RTP of 94.19% and 86.20%. What we are dealing with here is a 4×4 slot with two hundred and fifty-six paylines, a high variance setting, and a max exposure of x102,840. That looks impressive, but know that the highest wager you can make here is $8 per spin. The lowest one is $0.05, and there is no hit frequency listed.
Regarding its symbols, you should know that you get low-pay card royals and juicy burgers for premiums. You win prizes here by getting four matching symbols on a defined payline on the same spin, with four identical royals producing wins from x0.4 to x0.6 and four matching burgers yielding prizes from x0.8 to x2.
The wild here is a soda drink appearing on the second, third, and fourth reels.
Bonus Features
In Burgers, the bottom row is the bonus one. When Lettuce, Onion, or Tomato multipliers land there, they boost any burger directly above them. Onion multipliers can range from x2 to x3, Lettuce ones from x4 to x5, and Tomatoes from x8 to x10. In the base game, Ice multipliers appear as x2 and apply to wilds above them. Winning combos get enhanced by all multipliers on burgers and wilds involved in the win.
Hitting three or four scatters, which are bags of French fries, activates the free spins bonus, giving you a dozen or sixteen on-the-house spins, depending on whether you have landed three or four, respectively. The first ice multiplier during this feature starts at x2, with subsequent ones increasing progressively. Landing three scatters during this mode grants four extra spins, with four additional spins awarded for each scatter beyond the third.
Burgers also has a Win Exchange and a bonus buy option. If you win a prize of x100 or more, you can trade it in for a dozen complimentary gaming rounds, and wins between x25 and x100 can get gamblers the same dozen spins through a bonus wheel. That is the Win Exchange. Directly activating the bonus round in Burgers will run you x100 your stake.
GOSU Verdict
The multipliers and the bonus row are nice and dandy, but we cannot shake the similarities between this game and Big Time’s Donuts. One would think that in six years, we would have gotten a dramatically better game than that one. This sequel does not substantially improve on its predecessor, and while okay, it is nothing to get excited about. Burgers was not our cup of tea, and we did not get into a good groove playing it. Maybe it will be different for you. Give it a shot.
