Napoleon Megaways Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

We have not seen much industry news about Blueprint Gaming in 2024. We can remember only reading that this company is expanding its Netherlands presence. Aside from this, we can only think of stumbling upon a game press release from Blueprint, which releases two to four slots per month and whose portfolio tally is now close to hitting four hundred products overall.

Napoleon Megaways is a Blueprint Gaming game that showed up in online casino lobbies on October 28th, 2024. Jo Purvis, Blueprint’s director of marketing, mentioned in the press release for this slot that the provider is happy to bring back this famous historical figure again to digital reels. This Megaways spinner did not do exceptionally well in its debuting week, trending outside the top one thousand most-played games in most high-profile markets and only breaking this barrier in territories like Sweden, Malaysia, Ireland, the UK, and Canada. Britain is a strong Blueprint Gaming region, and this game ranked around six hundred in its first week in this market, which we found surprising. But with that out of the way. Let us shift our focus to the quality of this online slot.

Theme & Design

Napoleon is a name pretty much everyone with even a faint knowledge of European history knows. He was a French military officer and statesman who lived from 1976 to 1821 and who gained fame during the French Revolution. Best recognized as the leader of the French Republic from 1799 to 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte was actually of Italian origin, and he crowned himself Emperor of the French in December of 1804. Renowned for his crafty military tactics, in the summer of 1812, he attempted a bold invasion of Russia, which ended in retreat, and a year later, he got defeated at Leipzig in the War of the Six Coalition, which ended his military career after France got invaded and Napoleon got exiled to the island of Elba.

We mentioned that this is not Blueprint Gaming’s first use of Napoleon. Going by memory, we can think of two other slots from this developer that utilize this historical character. They are Napoleon Rise of an Empire and Napoleon Deluxe. So, we cannot say that this game attempts to capitalize on the 2023 release of the Napoleon movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, directed by Ridley Scott.

We must say that the presentation of this game disappointed us, as it looked like something we would have expected to see in a pre-2020 era. It is essentially an upgraded version of Napoleon’s Rise of an Empire. The graphics and style here have a regal feel, but they seem overly sharp and not to the high standard we have come to expect from Blueprint’s team. The setting is a battlefield, where the action picks up when you enter the free spin bonus. There, you see game soldiers moving forward to the left of the reel grid, cannons firing, and more dynamic music. Different sound bites also come into play, and smoke fills the horizon here.

We were not fans of the graphics, nor the overall vibe of this gaming product, whose main buttons get set right of the reel grid.

Specs & Gameplay

Napoleon Megaways comes in two RTP versions, one of 95.49%, which is the one we played, and the other 92%, which we believe you will struggle to find on notable gaming platforms. The number of reels in this spinner is six, and there is technically no defined number of rows, as due to the Megaways engine, you can see two to five symbols per reel on any given spin, which leads to up to 15,625 betways.

The variance of this title is medium-high, the win cap stands at $250,000 per some reports, and the betting range in this Napoleon-themed title moves from $0.10 to $10 per spin. As you would expect, Napoleon is wild, appearing in all the reels except the first one, and Napoleon can come with additional features. Bonus scatters provide payouts from any position, awarding prizes of x2, x20, x50, or x100 your stake for three to six scatters in view. The low-pay tokens of this product are your typical different-colored J to A royals, paying out x0.4 for six-of-a-kind combos. Their better-paying counterparts are sailships, military horses, cannons, pistols, war drums, and a soldier, for payouts up to x20 for six soldiers and down to x0.4 and x0.8 for the same number of pistols and drums.

Bonus Features

In truth, this is a pretty simple game. As touched upon, Napoleon acts as a wild, of the expanding kind with a multiplier value based on the reel positions it covers. For instance, if it has five symbol spots, and one is a wild, it expands fully, creating a x5 multiplier.

The free spin bonus in Napoleon Megaways gets activated by you hitting three or more scatters, which will give you twelve complimentary gaming rounds with an unlimited number of retriggers. The same wild multiplier mechanic applies here, but Napoleon’s appearance upgrades high-value symbols progressively. What do we mean by that? Well, drums upgrade to pistols, pistols to cannons, and so forth by increasing payout value until you get to the soldier. Additionally, one to four Napoleons can add one to seven spins.

GOSU Verdict

What did we think of Napoleon Megaways? We felt that it trod familiar ground, including aspects of Napoleon’s Rise of an Empire. Overall, we were not fans of this Blueprint Gaming release, and given that this provider has churned out some classics in the past, we now get disappointed that most of their releases are run-of-the-mill fare. Do not get us wrong, Napoleon Megaways is Okay, but it is ole-timey, does not have impressive specs, has a max win that will not have anyone salivating to play this slot, and its bonus features are nothing too exciting. Yet, to be frank, the presentation was the biggest turn-off for us here. Maybe history buffs will get somewhat of a kick from this product, but that is not us.
