Book of Gods Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

If you have been in the interactive gaming industry for an extended period and you do not have an Egyptian-theme game in your catalog, then you clearly do not know this market. Egyptian mythology is one if not the most popular subject for exploitation by online slot developers. Australia’s Big Time Gaming is no exception, as Book of Dead is the second Egypt-themed title in their reel-spinning arsenal. The first is Queen of Riches, which came out in 2016. Book of Gods hit online casinos everywhere in May of 2018, and popularity-wise, it did slightly better than Queen of Riches. However, let us see how it stands on its own merits.

Theme & Design

Ah, another “Book of” slot. The origins of this slot sub-genre date back to 2004 when Novomatic (Green Tube) released Book of Ra. It offered straightforward gameplay and a modest RTP of only 92.13%. However, it allowed players to dig into the mysteries of Ancient Egypt with an Indiana Jones-like explorer. It was a smash hit, spawning dozens of copycats. The most famous of which is Play’n Go’s Book of Dead. In 2018, Big Time Gaming decided to take advantage of its popularity by diving into this sub-genre with this title.

We have to compliment the visuals here. They superbly blend 3D and 2D graphics, and the scenery has a decent sense of depth. You can see the Nile in the background as well as the pyramids of Giza. The reels here spin within a monument-like construction floating inside a stone deck, flank by pillars. We have to say that this whole composition gives away an otherworldly vibe. A saturated scenery does not fall in line with cliché desert representations of Egypt we have gotten used to seeing in these games. Though Book of Gods’ soundtrack is pretty standard, featuring the typical string and percussion instruments.

If you are playing on a desktop computer, all the buttons are on the right side. The stack begins with the spin one at the bottom. Above it is the setting and auto-spin ones and on top of those lies the bet-adjuster. The Bonus Buy option is at the very top of this pack. If you are a mobile phone user, you will find the spin and auto-spins buttons on the right side of your screen and the bet-adjuster on your left.

Specs & Gameplay

Book of Gods is a five-reel, three-row slot with 243 ways to win. It features an RTP of 96.35% and a high variance. Bet sizes here range from ten cents to $40, and the max exposure is x4,860. You form winning combos in this game when three to five matching symbols appear on the grid on adjacent reels left to right. It also incorporates symbol cloning, like most “Book of” slots. That means that when you hit enough of the selected symbols, they clone to cover the entire reel and provide a prize for every pay line.

The low-paying symbols in this game are 9-A royals, paying out prizes worth x0.5 to x2 for five-of-a-kind. The high-paying ones are four Egyptian gods (Isis, Khonsu, Ra, and Bast). Bast is the most precious symbol out of this bunch, and if you hit five cat goddesses of the afterlife on the grid on a spin, you will win a reward that is x20 your stake.

The golden book is both this game’s Wild and Scatter, and it substitutes all other symbols except the Feature Drop one. Landing Feature Drop symbols will lower the price of the Bonus Buy option by half stake.

Bonus Features

If you land three or more golden book symbols on the grid, you will activate the Free Spins Round. Three Wild/Scatters will get you fifteen complimentary reel rotations. Four will earn you twenty, and five will get you twenty-five free spins. At the start of this mode, the book will randomly select one of the four Egyptian gods to be the cloning symbol for this round.

If you manage to land three Wild/Scatters when inside this round, you will get three extra spins, and an additional god becomes a cloning symbol. If you retrigger this mode three times, then hitting three Wild/Scatters on the grid will only result in more free spins, as in that instance, all gods will become cloning symbols. You can reactivate this mode indefinitely.

The cost of buying your way into the Free Spins Round is x80 your current stake. Though, as noted, landing Feature Drop symbols throughout your gameplay will lower this price.

GOSU Verdict

If you are a fan of “Book of” reel-spinners, give Big Time Gaming’s stab at the genre a shot. If you do not care for these games or Egypt-themed slots in general, you should stay away from – Book of Gods. It is an unoriginal release that does not offer anything new. Do not get us wrong. It is a decent title, but it is a tad bit underwhelming. It looks good, but you can find better high variance games out there with a higher max win potential. Book of Gods is short of features, and the only thing that makes it stand out from other “Book of” games is its 243 ways to win.

The sincerity of GOSU verdict always very good. The minimum bet of $ 0.1 is fine to test the first 100 spins ($ 10) although you should try it with 243 spins … 😉
