Lightning Roulette Review
Lightning Roulette is one of Evolution Gaming’s most successful live dealer games and one that can regularly be found at fiat and crypto casinos alike. It merges classic live roulette gameplay elements with RNG (random number generator) action to provide an exhilarating roulette experience, coupled with big money multipliers that give you a chance to win more than ever before. Who else but the number one authority on live casino games could come up with the idea of blending multipliers with roulette action?
There is no reason to fear for those who are concerned that Lightning Roulette represents a seismic shift from the basic game that they know and love. Evolution’s Lightning Roulette is, by and large, the same sort of game as their conventional Live Roulette releases. However, the use of multipliers only ensures that bettors can win more than ordinarily possible. Those multipliers don’t come at a cost. Find out more about how the game works as we dive deeper into Lightning Roulette in this review.
Theme and Design
On the face of it, the jet-black roulette wheel and interface aren’t much different from the live roulette games that you’ll have played from Evolution before. However, there is one essential addition in Lightning Roulette. The host will regularly nip off to the side to crank a lever that wouldn’t look out of place in a mad scientist’s lab. That Tesla-like lever will initiate a “lightning strike” that illuminates numbers on the board behind the host and wheel. These will then become multiplier numbers, promising epic cash prizes that could be worth up to 500x a bet, on top of what you can conventionally win with a spin of the roulette wheel.
The game itself is streamed from Canada, Georgia, Malta, and Romania and can be played in various languages. High-quality camera action and exciting sound effects add to the experience. Lightning Roulette is mobile-friendly, and a futuristic-style backdrop enhances the overall experience. This roulette release looks much more like Evolution’s game show titles than its more traditional roulette tables.
The game also comes with a few added perks. These include insights into how other players are betting, the results of previous rounds, general statistics on gameplay, and an integrated live chat option where you can naturally speak to your hosts. None of these features is unique to Lightning Roulette and can conventionally be found in most live dealer casino titles from Evolution Gaming. Even so, it is a nice touch to have them accessible here.
Specs and Gameplay
Lightning Roulette is based on European roulette, and as such, there is just one zero pocket on the wheel. You’ll have full access to all inside and outside bets, but you can also place racetrack wagers if you prefer, allowing you to cover the wheel with Voisins du Zero, Orphelins, Jeu Zero, and Tiers du Cylindre bets.
Table limits stretch from 0.50 up to a grand (in fiat currencies), and the game uses the customary traffic light system for bets. Green is your go sign for betting; yellow reminds you that the betting window is closed, and red means you can no longer bet as the game is in play.
With your bets staked, the game commences. You can (if you wish) opt to play Lightning Roulette as you would any conventional game of European roulette. However, the payouts are altered marginally to fit the multipliers into play, so we wouldn’t recommend that. Instead, we’d suggest you take full advantage of the multiplier aspect of the game.
In terms of basic European roulette gameplay, outside bets 1:1 and 2:1, with lines and corners offering 5:1 and 8:1 payouts, respectively. A street will get you an 11:1 payout, while splits offer winnings of 17:1. The most significant difference here is straight bets, where the top prize is 30:1, instead of 35:1. Why? Because multipliers are only applied to straight bets.
Lightning Roulette has an RTP of 97.3%; therefore, its house edge is just 2.7%. That is along the lines of what we’d expect to see in any conventional European roulette game.
Bonus Features
We’ve teased and taunted you for long enough with those multipliers. Now it is time to discuss them and explain why straight bets only pay out at 30:1. The multiplier isn’t truly a bonus feature, as it comes standard in the game. However, because it is possible to play this release without affecting your winnings (you must wager on straight-up bets to be in with a chance of multipliers being applied), we still consider it a “bonus option” of sorts.
You don’t need to do anything specific to play with the multipliers in Lightning Roulette, nor do you have to pay extra, like with a conventional side-bet. Instead, all you must do is wager on a straight bet.
On each spin, the host will crank a lever, as mentioned. It is purely ceremonial, with RNGs determining which numbers (between one and five of them) will be highlighted as Lucky Numbers. Those Lucky Numbers can deliver a multiplied cash prize if the ball should land in the pockets tied to the Lucky Numbers and if they match your straight-up bet.
Lucky Numbers can deliver multipliers (known as Lucky Payouts) worth 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x, or as much as 500x your stake. Given that the maximum stake is 1,000 credits, you could be looking at winnings worth half a million here.
GOSU Verdict
If you’re not very interested in placing straight-up bets, then Lightning Roulette is just as ideal as any other conventional live dealer roulette game from Evolution Gaming. If you are an eager fan of straight bets, then Lightning Roulette may be worth a shot. Yes, you could end up winning less if you fail to win on a Lucky Number. On the other hand, though, you can win vastly more in Lightning Roulette than seemingly most other live roulette games on the market can deliver. For that reason, we’re happy to give it a double thumbs-up.
