Gonzo’s Treasure Map Game Review
Evolution Gaming has had quite a lot of success with Gonzo’s Quest. Acquiring Scandinavian powerhouse, NetEnt gave them access to this popular franchise. Since then, they have wowed the casino world with top live dealer games like Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt. Now, Gonzalo Pizzaro is back for his latest adventure, as Evolution brings Gonzo’s Treasure Map to the table.
Launched in the summer of 2023, this release offers you both more of the same and a touch more originality in terms of gameplay. Find out what this means for you as we explore Gonzo’s Treasure Map right here.
Theme and Design
Any Evolution Gaming who has played the provider’s Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt will be familiar with the wall-like interface found in this game. The premise is much the same as other titles in this brand, with Gonzo Pizzaro still hell-bent on finding the lost city of El Dorado.
While the original wall-based variant offered more of a slot-like interface and design, like the original Gonzo’s Quest title, this game aims to do things differently. Your objective here is to explore the seventy odds squares on the screen by placing bets. You’ve got a host (dressed in explorer garb) who’ll guide you through the process, too.
Gonzo’s Treasure Map is streamed out of Latvia and is available to play in over seventeen languages. It accepts crypto stakes as well as FIAT options, giving you a variety of ways to play the game.
Specs and Gameplay
The objective when playing Gonzo’s Treasure Map is to predict where gold and multiplier blocks are hidden. Gonzo has a set of keys that he can use to explore the map. As touched on, there are seventy spots on the wall, and you can wager on each one.
Stakes in the game can rise from $0.10 to $5,000, while the maximum prize is typically set to around 500x a bet, as you’ll see soon enough. The game is deemed highly volatile, so don’t expect to win regularly in this game. However, wins do tend to be extensive when they occur.
To begin with, you’re looking at betting on one or several of the tiles that appear on the wall. Once all bets are complete, all the tiles dissolve, showcasing blank spaces or golden keyholes. If you land on one of those, Gonzo will unlock it, taking you to the bonus round, but only if a block lands on it from the Prize Drop, as explained below.
The game contains a random Prize Drop mode. With this, a block will drop from above down onto the wall. They could be gold blocks or multipliers. Gold blocks boost your bet by 10x on normal stones, while multiplier blocks offer 20x your stake if they land on a normal block that you’ve bet on. A total of five blocks will drop, one for each column featured on the wall.
However, if a gold block lands on a keyhole (and you’ve bet on that block), then you’ll get the bonus. If the multiplier stone lands on the keyhole, you’ll be taken to the bonus and have those multipliers double anything you win the bonus.
Bonus Features
In the bonus round, Gonzo will use a key to rotate the wall. This showcases a brand-new wall with 70 new stones. Each offers a multiplier, ranging from 25x up to 500x. Naturally, the more valuable the multiplier, the less frequently it appears on the wall.
The game proceeds as before, except this time, a single ruby block will land on the screen. If it lands on your tile, you’ll land an immense multiplier, and the bonus ends. If it lands on an X2 tile, all multipliers are doubled, and the process begins anew. This gives you a window of multiplying multipliers until the ruby stone lands on a conventional multiplier.
GOSU Verdict
Gonzo’s Treasure Map has an RTP rate of 95.26%, which is marginally smaller than the 96.56% RTP of Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt. At the same time, its predecessor has a max win of 20,000x a bet, while this game limits its prizes to 500x a stake. It should be noted that it is not particularly easy to trigger the bonus round in this game. The sheer number of tiles (70), coupled with the number of bonus tile unlocks (5 per game), means that most of the time, you’re only going to be playing for prizes worth up to 19:1 (20x). That’s not particularly appealing.
While there is definitely something fun to play here, you will likely find Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt a more rewarding and potentially more exciting release. However, don’t take our word for it; give it a crack at our top-rated and trusted Bitcoin casinos, as explained below.
