Developed by Evolution Gaming, Cash and Crash debuted to much fanfare in 2021. The game has one of the best RTPs you will find in the entire live casino world, at 99.59%, and is notably cheap to play. However, high rollers can get a slice of the action, too, with a reasonably flexible wagering range in place. What is the game, and what can it offer you, though?

We’d argue that Cash and Crash was one of the very first cryptocurrency games to make it big as a live dealer release. The game is loosely based on homebrew, in-house crypto game software from a decade ago. The game was primitive and involved knowing when to pull out before you lost your winnings. Theme and Design

Cash or Crash is one of many wall-based live dealer games that you can now play at crypto casinos. It has a lot in common with conventional game show releases from Evolution Gaming, of which there are now many. As touched on, this one has its origins in the crypto gaming world, to begin with, but also has elements of lottery and keno games to it.

The betting menus are located at the bottom of the screen and wouldn’t look out of place in any conventional RNG (random number generator) game, such as slots. In the center is where the action takes place, while your host will stand to the left or right of the action area. Dressed as a flight crew, the game is loosely designed to mimic an aircraft. While that lends the game originality, it is the gameplay that we are more interested in.

Cash or Crash is streamed from Latvia and will see you wager between $0.10 and $1,000 a game. There are no side bets to worry about here, so you can simply crack on with playing the game as you see fit. As touched on, there is an RTP of 99.59% to play with here.

There is nothing daunting or challenging about Cash or Crash. You don’t need any prior experience to play the game, either. During the twenty-second betting period, you merely need to decide if you are interested in joining the game or not. If so, place your bet.

Once the betting window has ended, the game begins. Your character (well, you) will start climbing a ladder. Every time a green ball is dropped from the bingo/lottery machine in the center of the screen, you will move up one rung on the ladder. Every step you take will see you pocket an increasing prize. However, you don’t get to keep that prize just yet.

Every time a red ball comes out of the machine, the game “crashes”. You’ll fall off the ladder, landing flat on your backside with nothing to show for you. In short – you’ll lose your bet and any money you haven’t cashed. The trick is to “cash out” your winnings before the red ball shows up.

Upon successful delivery of either a green or gold ball, you can choose to continue, cash out half the currently available money, or cash out all of it. If you cash out all the money, your game ends with a win. A gold ball, you say. Yes, and we’ll come to that in a moment.

You really want to land those gold balls, as they effectively count as “lives”. If you land a gold ball, you can afford to land one red ball without crashing.

The prizes you can win depend entirely on where you are (on the ladder) when you cash out. You’ll win 1.2x if you reach the very first step. Make it to the twentieth, though, and you can win 18,000x a bet (without a golden ball). The golden ball can also affect how much you can win, as we’ll explain below.

Bonus Features

As touched on, there is a single special feature woven into the design of Cash or Crash. To spice up the action, a gold ball has also been included in the mix. This serves two very special purposes. Gold balls effectively count as lives. Known as a “Shield”, they protect you from one red ball. If you’ve acquired a gold ball, then if a red ball shows up, you won’t crash immediately. Your “life” has saved you. However, if you land another red ball after that, it is game over.

At the same time, the gold ball serves another purpose – it can multiply what you can win. Without it, you can win up to 18,000x a bet in this game on the twentieth step on the ladder. However, this can rise to 50,000x a bet if the golden ball has been used. Whatever you win, payouts are capped at $500,000 in this game. We’re still not sure if we’d call this a special feature or a bonus feature. However, Evolution Gaming seems to think it is, so we’ll roll with it.
