Turtle Paradise Slot Review
The last slot we reviewed from Red Tiger Gaming was Fa Fa Babies 2, which we scanned at the end of August. To put it bluntly, we hated that game, and the one before it from Red Tiger we looked at – Emperor of India, did not impress us, as we found that release average. Between Turtle Paradise and Fa Fa Babies 2, this famed studio only released one game, Diamond Blitz 2, which did not make much noise anywhere. The same applies to the few it set loose before Fa Babies. Hence, we have been keeping a watchful eye on this developer, hoping it will churn out something unique. When we saw a novel Red Tiger distributed slot, we decided to give it a shot, even though we did not have high hopes for it.
Turtle Paradise appeared on gambling website game pages on August 29th, 2024, and it is only performing admirably in Ireland, India, Ukraine, and Austria. We saw other markets where this title reached the top one thousand most-played game standings. Let us dive deep into this product and see if it brings something new to the table, breaks the Red Tiger mediocrity mold, and entices us to come back to it.
Theme & Design
Characterized by their hard bone shell, Turtles are Testudines reptiles. They have appeared in the folklore of many cultures around the globe, often getting used to symbolize longevity, wisdom, and perseverance. They also get used to represent the connection between earth and water but mostly get associated with their long lifespans. Land turtles, such as the Galápagos tortoise, can live over one hundred and fifty years.
We know of hundreds of games in which these reptiles are featured, but we have to struggle really hard to come up with a couple of titles in which they are the focus. Turtley Awesome from Games Global/Microgaming is the first that came to mind, a game we used to play almost a decade ago, followed by 888 Turtles by the Skywind Group.
The visuals here are nothing special and reminiscent of various fishing games that have popped up in the past four years, looking to capitalize on the success of Reel Kingdom’s Big Bass series. The transparent reels here spin over a shore, where choppy water animations play. The symbol graphics here, as stand-alone elements, are not bad, and we like the swimming fish in the water, along with the music that plays when you get some wins going. But overall, the audio side of things is not very impressive. You get a beach-like tune playing in the background that is super subtle and quiet, only ramping up when the gameplay demands it. That gets paired with some water sound effects.
The presentation of Turtle Paradise quickly turned dull for us. It already sort of was, but we got bored with it minutes into our gameplay. It is not that it was so bad, it was just uneventful, not unique, and too repetitive. Things do get a bit lively in the bonus round, but the gamble mode reminded us of a flash-based version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire that was available for Web PC play in the early 2000s. Red Tiger’s team could have made this aspect of the game more engaging, using better visuals rather than the simplistic approach they took. It does not fit the overall game motif.
You get the standard Red Tiger button interface in this slot, with the stake selector and auto-play button in the bottom left, and the spin, turbo-spin, and gamble ones in the bottom right corner of your screen.
Specs & Gameplay
Turtle Paradise is a 5×3 spinner with twenty-pay lines, a medium variance setting, an RTP of 95.68%, and wager sizes that move from $0.10 on the lowest end to $20 on the highest. The highest prize you can attain in this Red Tiger online gambling pick is a win of x4,602 your stake.
The paylines here pay left to right, for three to five matching symbols landing on adjacent reels. The low-pay ones are A to 10 royals, producing wins of x1.2 to x1.6 for five-of-a-kind combos. Their high-pay counterparts are three ocean creatures that produce wins of x2 to x8 when five identical tokens from this group hit on this slot’s reel setup.
You also have turtle wilds in Turtle Paradise. These images pay x8 for five-of-a-kind combinations and substitute all the other discussed pay symbols.
Bonus Features
This slot shows a nest containing three eggs above each reel. Each egg corresponds to a symbol position below. When a Turtle Wild lands on a reel, it lays an egg in the corresponding empty nest. The Turtle Respins feature activates if a Turtle lands in a spot with an egg. If multiple turtles land on occupied positions, each subsequent turtle after the first increases the global win multiplier by one, which applies to all wins during the Turtle Respins.
In the Turtle Respins, all eggs hatch into Baby Wilds and then move to their designated positions on the reels. If one or more of these occupy the middle or top reel position, another respin gets triggered. During respins, baby Turtles shift down a position, while any turtles on the bottom disappear. If a new wild lands in a middle or top position, it lays an egg, instantly hatching a new Baby in that spot. This goes on until you see no turtles in the middle/top positions.
Some Wilds feature half a pendant on their shells. The left half appears on the leftmost reel, while the right half appears on the middle and right ones. Landing a Turtle with both halves activates five on-the-house gaming rounds. If one or more wilds land on a position with an occupied egg nest at the start of this round, each of these turtles grows the global multiplier by one. At the beginning of the free spin mod, all eggs hatch, and the baby wilds occupy their designated reel positions, remaining locked until the round concludes. Each wild that hits in the bonus supplies an extra spin.
GOSU Verdict
Hmm, we expected to hate this game after checking out its presentation. But we must say that we did not dislike it as much as we did. We would still call it an average slot, but the bonus features here stopped us from throwing this title in Fa Fa Babies 2 territory. We think it offers decent gaming and would have benefited sizably from a much better presentation that would have poured some life into this game.
