Side Bet City Live Game Review
If you’ve played blackjack, poker, and other live casino table games, you’ll likely be more than familiar with side bets. While it can often be risky to have a punt on a side bet in any casino game, Evolution has developed a way to make it less so – cram all your side bets into one game. That is essentially what Side Bet City is, and we’ve got to admit, we were kind of excited to give Side Bet City a run for its money for that reason.
Of course, we’re here to share our experience of playing this game and explain how it works. So, if you’re equally as intrigued by what Evolution’s Side Bet City has to offer as we were, read on to learn more about how to play it with our guide.
Theme and Design
Given that Side Bet City isn’t based on any conventional casino game, it has a rather unique design and interface. To kick things off, let’s talk about the proverbial elephant in the room – the look. Side Bet City has gone for a very 1980s look and feel – it’s got electric lighting, hot pinks, neon colorations, and an effervescent glow. That’s not a criticism – there’s nothing quite like it, and we love it.
Looks aside, Side Bet City features a wagering menu that takes a bit of getting used to. First, you’ll need to know what sort of side bet you’re going to make from those available. The central part of the menu will get the job done, with the lower part of it supporting your chips. Away to the right, you’ll find a paytable.
Specs and Gameplay
Here’s the good thing about Side Bet City – it isn’t complicated to learn to play, despite its appearance. You don’t even need any knowledge of poker to place side bets here. As long as you know roughly the order of poker hands (something most casino players will have memorized years ago), then you’re good to go. The game itself makes use of a standard deck of fifty-two cards – shuffled, of course.
The basic idea is to wager on one of four possible betting options. These include combos of three cards, five cards, seven cards, and “All Lose”. When you place a three-card bet, you need to land a result with the first three cards dealt. Naturally, the five-card and seven-card bets require a result in the first five or seven cards. If you place an All Lose bet, then you’re basically wagering that no winning hand will appear within seven cards.
After betting, the game will deal out cards. The cards in the hand will then be measured against a paytable to determine an outcome. If there is a winner, those who’ve bet on it will be rewarded with their prize from the paytable. If there is no winner, you’ll only get a prize if you placed the “All Lose” bet. Clearly, there’s an advantage to placing seven-card bets over five-card ones, as you’re trying to win with more cards – therefore, the payouts will be lower. Of course, the risk of ending up with nothing is also lower.
How to Bet and Win
You’ll have roughly thirty seconds to place your bets in Side Bet City. Wagers start at 1.00 a stake, while they can rise to 2,000.00 a pop, but no higher. Some versions of the game support 0.50 bets and cap stakes at 100.00 a turn, so it’s always worth checking what the limits are in the version you are playing. In some cases, casinos may give you a choice. That said, some crypto casinos may feature one version or the other based on the audience they are catering to.
After betting, the host will deal the cards. He or she will deal seven cards, but only the first three or five will count for you if that’s what you’ve bet on. Winning hands are determined much like a game of video poker, or, as the name of the game implies, a side-bet in Texas Hold’em or Casino Hold’em poker. Therefore, expect payouts for Any Pair, a Pair of Jacks to Aces, Two Pairs, a Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, the customary Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush, and a Royal Flush. The exact payouts you can receive will, as mentioned above, be based on the number of cards you’ve bet on.
Furthermore, some hands and payouts can only appear with selected bets, as detailed below:
- Three-Card Bet: Any Pair (1:1), Three of a Kind (35:1), a classic Straight (5:1), Flush (4:1), Straight Flush (40:1), and a Royal Flush (100:1).
- Five-Card Bet: A Pair of Jacks through Aces (1:1), any Two Pair (4:1), Three of a Kind (7:1), any Straight (25:1), Flush (40:1), or a decent Full House (50:1), a groovy Four of a Kind (100:1), the iconic Straight Flush (250:1), and a Royal Flush (1,000:1).
- Seven-Card Bet: Three of a Kind (3:1), Straight (4:1), a Flush (5:1), the Full House (7:1), a tricky to land Four of a Kind (50:1), a handy Straight Flush (100:1), and a Royal Flush (500:1).
All Lose bets always pay 0.70:1, as they always feature all seven cards. As mentioned, seven-card bets are the most likely, which is why they pay the least. The best payouts are arguably those for playing a five-card bet. When it comes to RTP rates, three, five, and seven-card bets have RTP rates of 96.69%, 95.21%, and 94.34%, respectively. The All Lose RTP rate is 96.29%, hence its low pay rate.
Bonus Features
There are no bonus features woven into the design of Side Bet City. In any other game, these types of bets would constitute bonus features or side bets, but as discussed, in this game, they are part and parcel of the base game.
