Temple of Paw Slot Review
We recently read the news that Quickspin was expanding in Britain with a new agreement struck between this established game developer and the Rank Group (Rank Interactive). Then, we saw that it entered into a deal with entertainment company SkillOnNet to expand its presence in Canada, Ontario, to be precise. And, before all this, its product became more widely accessible in Italy thanks to a partnership with Snaitech. That is an operator owned by Playtech. So, this Swedish developer has been doing big things, and given that we have not reviewed any of its products in a while, we decided to see what Quickspin has been up to and if they have any games we should look at.
Temple of Paw is probably not among the best that Quickspin has to offer since we last checked this studio’s release catalog. Nevertheless, we are suckers for cute cat slots. That no doubt played a role in us picking it, as did the fact that this title ranked in the top one hundred most played in the United Kingdom and the top five hundred in several other bustling interactive gaming regions. That combo sealed the deal that this would be the product to break us out of our Quickspin review drought. It came out on June 11th, 2020, and enough of this intro, let us get to our in-depth scan of it.
Theme & Design
We already told you the theme of this spinner, but what we missed mentioning is that the cats in question here are Asian ones. They are ones illustrated in a style typical for Japanese cartoon artists. There are many gaming titles that feature these types of cats, but before we get into feline gambling games, we should add that cats have various symbolic meanings in Asian cultures.
In Japan, the Maneki-Neko is a common Cat figurine that looks a bit like the one in this slot, and it has its paw raised, just like the cat in Temple of Paw, which is a sign that it is beckoning wealth and prosperity for its owner. Thus, we believe that these figurines are actually the thing that inspired this Quickspin creation, and they usually get made of either plastic or ceramic. In most cases, they get depicted in a seated position, one paw raised, holding a gold coin.
Loads of lucky cat slots exist, and out of these, the ones with beckoning cats we know of are Carnival Cat: Bonus Combo by NetGame, Salsa Technology’s Pachinko 3D, Aspect’s Fortune Cast 2, Neko Cat Fortune by Barbara Bang, and Playtech’s Coin Coin Coin.
The graphics here are pretty standard. They are cartoony ones that primarily lean on red and green. The setting is a stone port-like structure in front of a river, with the reels spinning inside a temple frame with two lanterns on both sides. The music here is a cliché Asian string soundtrack like the ones you have encountered in many other Chinese or Japanese-inspired slots. There are not loads of complex animations in Temple Paw, and the audio effects are pretty subtle.
The spin functions and the bet selector sit stacked right of the reel grid, and on the left of it are the bonus buy option and the settings icon. You also have another wagering selection option at the bottom of the 5×3 grid, where the balance and win info get displayed.
Specs & Gameplay
We told you the layout in Temple of Paw (5×3), but we did not note that the number of paylines in this high-variance game is twenty. It comes in four RTP iterations. They are 87%, 92%, 94%, and 96.01%. The latter one is the most common. The hit frequency in this spinner is 26.64. The max win stands at a quality x7,333 on a max bet of $100. The lowest one you can make here is $0.20 per spin. Please remember that this is a cascading game. So, keep that in mind. It appears that an ever-growing number of slots are these days.
Payouts in Temple of Paw get awarded for three to five matching tokens landing on one of the twenty paylines, with only the highest line winning getting cashout. There are two groups of symbols in this game, which Quickspin has decided to group in batches called low and medium. In the low collection, you have card suits that pay from x1.25 to x5 when five identical ones from this pile land on the grid in the same round. The mediums, premiums, or high-pay symbols, whatever you want to call them, produce wins of x10 to x75 for the same number (five) combination hitting on a spin. You have cat scatters in Temple of Paw and a gold paw wild that substitutes all the regular pay tokens and generates wins of x2.5, x12.5, and x125 when it lands three, four, or five times, respectively, in view.
Bonus Features
You get a multiplier meter in the Temple base game, which begins growing by one after each cascade/tumble.
Landing three to six scatters activates the Pawsperity Free Spins, awarding up to twenty-two free spins for six hit scatters. Before this round starts, you get a shot to gamble your winnings for an extra scatter on a segmented wheel. You can keep doing this until you get the maximum of six. During the feature itself, the multiplier increases by one for each winning token and does not reset between free spins. The round is re-triggerable, and you can buy your way into it by paying a price of x100 for your stake.
GOSU Verdict
What do we think of the Temple of Paw spinner? If you are not a sucker for cat-themed slots, then we would say that you should not entertain the idea of playing this game. It is a good one, with an above-average max win, which we love. However, it is not something that excites and screams – MUST PLAY. It is good, but it lacks the feature variety and presentation novelty we seek.
