Respin Mania Slot Review
We talked about the Skywin Group in our Super Lion review. Currently, that Starburst rip-off is their most popular game, with Respin Mania trailing slightly behind as their second most-played one. The B2B software provider with headquarters in the Isle of Man works closely with Playtech, supplying this UK gambling giant with reel-spinning titles. According to statistics, there has been a recent surge in user activity when it comes to Skywin products. We assume that this connects with Playtech entering new markets, as what this provider produces, in all honesty, does not warrant such attention.
Respin Mania came out in May of 2017. After lingering in obscurity in the summer of 2020, it began to gain traction. Interest in this slot dipped again at the start of 2021 before it shot up the ranks in March of 2020. At the time of writing, it is a top 50 game, pulling in its most impressive player numbers to date.
Theme & Design
One look at this slots logo, and it becomes instantly clear that the theme here is classic fruit machines, as it features the familiarly-shaped red seven. It is also a premium symbol in the gameplay. What can we say about classic slots? Bally Industries created the first fully electromechanical slot in 1963, Money Honey and Fortune Coin produced the first video reel-spinner in 1976. WMS was the company behind the first machine with a bonus round. If you have ever been to a land-based gaming establishment during the 1990s, you have likely seen one of these games. Most of them utilize the 3×3 grid format with the now common symbols that have attained legendary status in this industry.
Presentation-wise, Respin Mania is a super-simple game. You have a backdrop with slowly moving lights and shooting stars and a reel-grid in the middle of your screen that features the game logo. That’s about all we can say. Oh, it has a 1980s-like synth-type soundtrack that we did not hate but which quickly grew repetitive.
The buttons’ panel here is the same one as in Super Lion. The difference is that it has a different color. So, you can find the spin, auto-spin, and turbo-spin options on its right side. On the far left section of this panel are the bet-adjuster and the info icon.
Specs & Gameplay
Respin Mania is a five-reel, three-row online slot with twenty-five paylines. It is a high variance game with an average RTP of 96.18%. Bet sizes here go as low as $0.25 and as high as an impressive $250. However, the max exposure is only x500. So the most you stand to win spinning these reels is a reward of $125,000. Wins happen by forming symbol combinations of three to five identical tokens on a payline, left to right. If multiple symbol combos happen on a single spin, the game pays out the highest one.
The low-paying tokens of this game are four royals (10, J, K, A), each featuring a different card suit. The high-paying ones are your classic fruit machine symbols, two cherries, a bell, the bar symbol, and the red seven. To win the max prize (x500 your bet), you must hit five sevens on a single spin.
The Wild here is the word itself, substituting all other symbols except for the Scatter, and it only appears on reels one, three, and five. The Scatter is a diamond, and it can show up in any position.
Bonus Features
When you hit five or more Scatters on the grid, you trigger the Free Spins Round. Depending on the amount of Scatters landed, you can win anywhere from ten to one hundred three spins. To get the latter amount, you must fill the entire screen with nothing but Scatters. Know that you can re-activate this round indefinitely.
Any winning combo in the base game and the Free Spins Round triggers a re-spin. When that happens, all symbols part of a winning combination lock in place as the reels rotate again. If you form a new winning combo on a re-spin that pays out a better win than your original one, those symbols stay in place for the next re-spin.
GOSU Verdict
Meh. Respin Mania is nothing to write home about. A re-spin following a win is a cool idea. That, along with the potential of one hundred free spins, are the two main reasons to play this game. However, we wouldn’t hold our breath on the latter. We also wouldn’t recommend this title, as we did not find it entertaining, and it has too low of a max win for a high variance slot.
