We recently looked at 9 Masks of Fire, which is one of Gameburger Studios’ most-played games. If you read that review, you know that this Microgaming partner only has seven titles in its portfolio. According to a recent press release, they should release their eighth one in June of 2021 (Hyper Gold). While Gameburger has been slow to put out non-US market slots, all of their seven releases have done relatively well. Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar hit online casinos in September of 2020, and after a month of availability, it surprised everyone by climbing into the top 20. It has since managed to maintain a decent level of popularity, only falling out of favor with spinners in December of 2020 but then coming back stronger than ever.

Theme & Design

If you live in the Western world, it would be hard to believe that you have never heard of the name Tarzan, or at one point, listened to someone mimic his signature call. The character first appeared in the 1914 novel Tarzan of the Apes by American adventure writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. Following the success of the first novel, twenty-five sequels followed. The storyline of the series revolves around the title character Tarzan. He, along with his parents, gets marooned on the Atlantic Coast of Africa as an infant. Upon their death, a tribe of apes raised Tarzan as their own, making him a feral child. The novels depict his heroic adventures in the African jungle. The word Tarzan is a combination of tar and zan. The combo of these in the fictional monkey language of the novels means white skin.

As expected, Gameburger Studios takes a cartoony approach to this game. They mix in painterly graphics with some 3D animations. The human characters here have a more photo-realism vibe than expected. Particularly Tarzan, whose physique in the vine-swinging animations seems like a photo cutout of a fitness model’s body. The backdrop of this slot is the African jungle. However, once you activate a bonus feature, the screen moves to a hidden away, abandoned temple. The soundtrack that this game uses is dynamic, and yes, the famous Tarzan call is a part of it. You will need to land a decently-sized win to hear it. The reels here spin inside a stone structure, and to its left is a meter with seven jackpot amounts.

The button configuration of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar differs from that in 9 Masks of Fire. Here, you have the large spin button in the bottom right corner of your screen, with the max bet option next to it. The low-paying symbols of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar are J-A royals. For five-of-a-kind, they pay out a reward between x1 and x3.25 your wager. The high-paying ones are Tarzan, Jane, La, and the Belgian. Five-of-a-kind from this batch will get you a prize ranging between x5 and x37.5. Naturally, the ape-man is the most valuable character out of these four.

Bonus Features

There are several bonus features in this Gameburger release. The first one we will explain is the Random Wild one. On any reel rotation, both in the base game and the Free Spins Round, Tarzan may appear swinging from the vines, dropping at least two Wilds onto the grid. You enter the Free Spins Round by hitting three corresponding Scatters on reels two, three, and four. When this happens, you spin the round’s wheel of fortune.
