Super Lion Slot Review
If you have recently gotten into online gambling, we bet that you haven’t heard of the Skywind Group yet. Even some experienced spinners have not paid enough attention to notice this established provider. As far as we can recall, we haven’t reviewed any of their games yet, so we believe it is time to look at one. Founded in 2012 in Minsk, Belarus, Skywind is a long-time partner of the UK gambling giant Playtech. They are one of their chief game suppliers, boasting a catalog of over 270 titles. Skywind has subdivisions in multiple countries, and its headquarters are in the Isle of Man.
At the time of writing, Super Lion, released in August of 2019, is their most popular game. For the first few months of its existence, it dwindled in obscurity. It rose in popularity at the end of 2019. Since then, it has somewhat maintained, before experiencing a meteoric rise to the top 30 most-played games at the start of 2021. Let us evaluate if this recent spike in interest is due to game quality or something else.
Theme & Design
The theme here is Starburst. Yes, you read that correctly. The goal of this game is to emulate NetEnt’s most-popular creation. That legendary reel-spinner came out in November of 2013, and for years it has dominated the interactive gaming space as its most-played title. In recent years, no other game has managed to make it budge from the number one spot even for a day. Thus, it is so well-established that many developers have tried their hand at producing knock-off versions. Solar Wilds by All411 Studios is another similar product that is also super-popular. Although, Super Lion is a far more blatant rip-off.
That out of the way, as you would assume, the game takes place in space. It utilizes a similar violet backdrop as Starburst, and it also features gem symbols. The graphics here a 2D, and even some animations resemble NetEnt’s product. The soundtrack here is synth music that would feel at home in a 1980s sci-fi B-movie. That is not a bad thing. It is one of the things we most enjoyed about this game.
The button configuration has a decent design. You can find the large green spin button on the right side of the button’s panel, and the auto-spin and turbo options are next to it. On the left side of the setup, you will locate the info option and the bet-adjuster. There is a good luck message in the middle that turns into a prize display whenever you hit a winning combo.
Specs & Gameplay
Super Lion is a low variance reel-spinner that uses a five-reel, three-row grid, and ten paylines. The hit frequency here is 22.4, and the payback percentage is an industry average of 96.1%. Bet sizes here range between $0.1 to $300. Thus, this is a game that is perfect for players of all-sized bankrolls. The max exposure here is x993 your stake, and you form winning combos by landing three to five matching symbols on adjacent reels, left to right.
The low-paying symbols in this game are five different colored gems. For five-of-a-kind, they will produce a win in the range of x3 to x6 your bet. The high-paying ones are the omega symbols and a seven. These will yield a reward of x30 and x12.5 your stake, respectively, for five-of-a-kind on a single spin.
The multi-colored crystal lion, reminiscent of famous old Windows wallpaper, is this game’s Wild. He appears on only reels two, three, and four, substituting all other symbols.
Bonus Features
If you manage to land a Wild on reels two, three, and four, you will activate a Wild Respin. That means that the landed Wild will expand, giving you a stacked reel and an extra spin. However, the game will payout the combo on the original one first. If you manage to land another Wild on your complimentary reel rotation, it too will expand, giving you yet another spin, with it also remaining locked.
The game also features glowing gem symbols. If you hit any five on a payline, you will collect a progressive prize.
GOSU Verdict
If you have no access to Starburst but want to play a similar low variance slot, give this one a shot. Its max win potential is weaker than NetEnt’s title, and its RTP is also slightly lower. However, its max bet is three times larger, and it features a progressive jackpot prize. The two games are comparable, but you have to bear in mind that this one came out years after Starburst, and all that it did was merely copy a preexisting game. If you are on the lookout for simple low variance action, consider Super Lion. Otherwise, avoid it.
