Light of Ra Slot Review
We have likely shed more light on Booming Games than most other top industry news and review hubs. We recently noticed they announced a collaboration with BetConnections, a brand seeking to dominate the Latin American market. Booming also attained an SGA (Swedish Gambling Authority) license this year, and it has been taking things up a level regarding game creation. Their portfolio now numbers over two hundred spinners, with this developer releasing two to three games per month. Light of Ra is the latest title from this Malta provider, which the company’s Director of Product, Mortiz Blume, claims will make players feel the heat as they search for treasures in its temples and tombs. Light of Ra first hit exclusive sites on August 14th, 2023, and ten days later, it got global distribution, ranking fairly decently in several important markets like Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands.
Theme & Design
Given this product’s name, you already know what its theme is. We have spoken volumes about Ancient Egypt slots and how this genre is likely the sector’s most popular, predominately thanks to the vast ocean of Book Of titles. Going by our last count, around twenty-one hundred extinct civilization spinners are out there, and more than twelve hundred incorporate Egyptian mythology in some way. Of course, Book of Dead is the most popular one of these, with other entries in the series, such as Legacy of the Dead and Legacy of Egypt, trending high as well.
We have noted in our previous Booming Games product analysis articles that this developer has improved the presentation of the products in the past year. While Light of Ra does not incorporate impressive visuals, and its look and feel are not on par with some newer Booming slots, what it offers on the audio/video front is better than past releases from this provider.
The setting here is a multiple centuries-old temple, and the graphics featured are colorful painterly images. Yellowish gold dominates in this game, with violet being the second more present color in this spinner, adding Okay contrast. The animations in play are on par with the industry standard, but the big-win ones are a little choppy. Note that this slot implements the Book Of-winning line animation, and the sound bites here are decent, while the music is a cliché Arabic tune. What we did not like about the overall presentation of this game is that during the auto-play feature, the bonus/feature access animations played a little too long, unnecessarily extending the wait times between spins. All in all, this spinner felt a bit repetitive and lifeless to us.
The button configuration in Light of Ra is your typical new Booming Games one, with the spin button in the lower right and a plus icon next to it that supplies access to the mute sound/music, max bet, auto-spin, and turbo-spin functions. Above the spin button, you have a bet adjuster icon, and a mini-panel in the lower left corner of your screen has the same function, modifying your wager size. Above it is the Bonus Buy button.
Specs & Gameplay
The variance of Light of Ra is medium-high, the max win is x3.000, and the default RTP of this slot stands at 95.2%, which is disappointing. The game’s layout is 5×4, with thirty paylines, and Booming’s team has set the hit frequency at 30.02 here. The lowest bet you can make on this spinner is one of $0.1, and the highest is $50.
You cannot change the number of paylines in Light of Ra, and to get this slot to award you a win, you must land three or more matching symbols on one of the thirty predefined betways. Tokens do not need to touch on these lines for you to snag a reward.
The low-pay gem tokens supply wins of x1.6 or x2 for six-of-a-kind combinations, and the image premiums deliver prizes of x8 to x20 for the same number of identical tokens (six) from this group appearing on the 5×4 grid on the same spin.
The head of the falcon god Horus is the wild here, and a pyramid is a scatter.
Bonus Features
Booming Games products are famous for having uncomplicated bonus rounds. Is that also accurate for Light of Ra? Well, we would say yes. If three or more scatters pop into view, you will gain entry in the free spin mode. You will get six, eight, or ten on-the-house spins there, depending on the figure of triggering scatters hit. In this feature, you have minor eliminators and major upgrades. Concerning the first, when low-pay symbols create a winning combo in the free spins, they get removed, triggering a cascade. And regarding the later major upgrades, high-pay image symbols not of the golden variety get replaced with their golden counterparts when they create a reward combination in the free spins. Also, you have the Light of Ra Wild feature, which can get triggered by minor eliminations or major upgrades, adding one to ten wilds at random spots on the 5×4 grid.
Instant availability to the free spin round comes with a price tag of x90 for gamblers in jurisdictions that allow Bonus Buys.
GOSU Verdict
Did we like Light of Ra? Nath, it was not for us. The slot’s RTP is below average, and the gameplay is overall uneventful in our eyes. The major upgrade/minor elimination aspect is not horrible, and the Bonus Buy gets fairly priced. However, nothing excited us about this game, and the thing we most liked about it was the voice-over acting. Light of Ra is not horrible, but it is very by the numbers, and if Ancient Egypt spinners are your thing, there are many more engaging slots out there than this one. For instance, Valley Of The Gods from Yggdrasil is one title from this category, off the top of our heads, that has quality specs paired with acceptable gameplay.
