Drill That Gold Slot Review
If you have been visiting our site regularly for the past two years, then you know that we always keep an eye on what Pragmatic Play is doing. They have been slowly growing over the years, and now they seem to have earned their spot as an interactive gaming juggernaut. Many players claim that it is due to their Drops & Wins promotion. Others believe that it is Pragmatic’s steady stream of quality slots and the company branching off into the streaming dealer sphere that is responsible.
As was the case in 2021, Pragmatic started 2022 storming out of the gate with various different-themed releases. Some of their more recent ones include Rainbow Gold, Barn Festival, and the much-talked-about Crash-inspired Spaceman. Their latest release is Drill That Good, which gets analyzed below. It showed up on the internet on the 24th of March, 2022, and is still riding its initial popularity wave, hovering around the top 100 most played games in the online gambling space. Hence, it’s too early to tell if it is going to be a hit or drop out of the elite pack relatively soon. In what follows, we supply our investigation of this slot and our opinion on what its future holds.
Theme & Design
As you likely have guessed by the name of this release, this is a mining-theme slot. Given that gold is a frequent motif in slot games, for obvious reasons, this sector is no stranger to gaming products that feature mining elements of some sort. Our research showed that over one hundred reel-spinners exist that incorporate mining in some way and over a thousand where gold is a highlighted motif.
In Drill That Gold, Pragmatic sticks to what it does best visually, supplying painterly colorful graphics. Yet, in all honesty, this does not feel like a Pragmatic Play slot. It has more of a Hacksaw or a Push Gaming vibe. We consider this a positive as many of Pragmatic’s releases look and feel the same. Something that is not the case with this one, which has multiple animations, and character design reminiscent of 1990s Neo-Geo games. Metal Slug, anyone?
The reels here spin inside a wooden frame which lives inside a metal one. The latter has rotating blades on its top bar. The setting here is a mine, and there is a miner holding power cables on the right side of your screen, with the game logo floating above his head. We will not get into describing the button’s panel of Drill That Gold, as it is the same one that Pragmatic has used for years.
Specs & Gameplay
The grid layout of Drill That Gold is the standard 5×3 one. The game has twenty paylines and a max exposure of x5,000. Its variance is high, and the RTP has gotten set to 96.45%, slightly above the industry’s average.
ou can make bets as low as $0.2 and wagers as high as $100 on Drill That Gold. To snag a prize on this reel-spinner, you must land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels. The low-paying tokens of this game are A-10 royals, paying x0.8 to x2 for five-of-a-kind.
The high-paying ones are a pickaxe, a lantern, a cart of gold, a diamond, and the miner. Five identical symbols from this batch will yield wins ranging from x3.2 to x10.
A detonator is the Wild here, substituting all symbols except for the Scatter, a silver drill. The Scatter appears on all the reels.
Bonus Features
Following a winless spin, a random modifier may get activated and change your result into a win of at least x10 your wager. Or it may produce enough bonus symbols to bring you the Free Spins feature.
When a stack of miners lands on a reel in the base gameplay, they transform into a giant drill. The drill then turns Wild, and it can reveal a random money reward from x2 to x100 of your stake.
Hitting three, four, or five Scatters will provide you access to the Gold Spins feature. Depending on the number of Scatters landed, you can get six, eight, or ten complementary reel rotations in this mode. Inside it, a new drill appears, a golden one. The combo of this drill and the silver one can lead to rewards of up to x1,000.
Remember, during the Gold Spins, when a miner symbol lands, the reel it falls on will nudge down or up to bring a vertical stack on the grid, which will change into a golden or silver drill.
The Gold Spins mode can get re-activated endlessly. Moreover, you only need to land two Scatters in it to initiate a new set (four) of free spins.
Drill That Gold offers an Ante Bet. That is an option that will grow the wager multiplier by 25%, up to x25 per payline. When active, all the drills in play will be golden ones, guaranteeing a direct monetary reward when one appears.
GOSU Verdict
We will say that Drill That Gold is decent. The max payout here at x5,000 (on a $100 bet) is not bad, and the RTP setting of this game is slightly higher than what we have gotten used to seeing from high variance slots. It is not a super innovative product, but it held our attention and feels slick. We do not believe that it will grow into a classic. But, at least, it’s something a bit different from Pragmatic. We appreciate the effort.
